I have seen my share of "What country has the strongest military" thread. I have found a chart from a legit site that specializes in accounting military strength.

http://www.globalfirepower.com/countries-listing.asp

Lo and behold.

So?
There's no discussion.
And personally, I already knew that America had the strongest, because that's just how fucking good we are.

Nothing says 'we kick arse' like a military industrial complex.

That site sort of sucks. For example, the Russian infantry are mostly conscripts who hardly ever get paid. They don't have any night vision capability. I'm not even sure if they're tanks have it.

India just has shitloads of men and tanks... They have been training to destroy Pakistan for so long that they would be lost in any type of war, they're equipment is far to specialised for that one task.

China doesn't even have any aircraft carriers. How the hell can they do anything without aircraft carriers? They can't, thats what. Although they do have some good submarines.

Basically the site is based wholly on numbers. Not a good idea.

EDIT: Also, can someone tell me what the USA's active paramilitary units are? Are they SWAT teams or what? I'm curious... Do you have your own version of Iran's baseej militia?

Not in the business of potentially starting a flame war, but...

There's more to warfare than that which was used to compile this chart; simply put when two countries go to war, geographical and logistical constraints can whittle away any perceived advantaged which is due to the prior performance of said militarises.

In other words; while in a 1-on-1, man'O el man'O, fight between America and, say, the Viet Cong, America could win, it's rarely that simply. There's logistics, public support, and, as Sun Tzu put it, the Heavens and the Earth, but that's not even mentioning the other factors.

Mano y Mano, and American would win in a fight with a vietnamese person, but thats beside the point. You make a good point, no one gives a toss if you have the most towed artillery, but its all in storage/obsolete/in a scrapyard (looking at YOU, Greece), or if your public doesn't want to go to war...

Well, look at that.
Germany is seventh place and we don't even have any nukes.
Guess the rest of our military must really rock.
