I would describe it as alternate rock. It's created by the singer from tool, Maynard James Keenan. :D And some other guy.. I don't really listen to them much.

EDIT: Also, I get depressed by most of their songs. Stick to tool, Maynard. d:

Love this band to no end, and am forever pissed that I didn't get to see 'em live.

Favourite songs have to be The Hollow, Judith, 3 Libras, Weak and Powerless, Blue, Vanishing, A Stranger, The Outsider, Pet, Gravity, Passive, and their cover of Imagine.

Saw em live... they were allright.

After hearing these last Tool albums and the output from Perfect Circle I am convinced that what I really loved from Aenima was the production work on that album.

Saw them live in NH probably 5 years ago or so, they were ok, but the band doesn't seem to have that much chemistry. Mer De Noms was the only album of theirs I really loved, after Paz left the band lost a lot of the appeal for me. Tool on the other hand, is in my top 5 favorite bands of all time.

Tool was always horrible on this mainstream, mediocre level by trying to combine metal, rock, and whatever electronic sound they could into one unique vision...

So many other bands deserve the recognition Tool gets, but because they don't bring themselves down to a certain level no one will ever give them a chance. APC however, was an exception. Their songs aren't always brilliant but at least they take them into the right direction.

Edit- I heard so many Kreator riffs on 10,000 Days.

I dont mind A Perfect Circle. I would prefer if Maynard didn't have anything to do with them as they are automatically compared to Tool as a result. some of my favorite work came from Emotiv and The Thirteenth Step, both of which had James "I was in The Smashing Pumpkins" Iha. I quite like them. it's slow, melodic almost metal. Check out their cover of John Lennon's Imagine

Sure.
Their version of 'Imagine' kicks the original all over the place.
Turns that optimistic schmaltz into something deeply sardonic..

Go find their arizona concert recording.

It's everything+1.

Passive is my favorite too!

It's the best example I know of building up to an emotional and musical climax in a song.

3 Libras is like their only claim to fame.
3 Libras is a terrible example to base APC on, eye ehm oh. Most songs are a wonderful blend of elegant lyrics to define base human desire or condition. Usually sardonic or having sardonic elements.

Magdalena. Live Version, better than studio! [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xc5daOy_c1Y]

Judith. "F*ck your GOD!" [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYdxLLc0exI]

Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ejsM0VF-Os&feature=PlayList&p=B422778310A3520D&index=33]

These are much better examples, and better songs, from APC.

Their cover of Imagine is just awesome. Haunting but beautiful.

Oh, and The Noose!

My mind wanders into beautiful, vengeful places when I hear it.

Simple intrumentals, yet unique. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pU4RA8L_V4&feature=PlayList&p=B422778310A3520D&index=14]

Spoiler: It's about someone in some sort of "[Addictive substance] Anonymous" class, who proclaims they're all well, and that their stories of their misdeeds are someone else's terrible deeds that they've shed responsibility for.

Their self-appointed halo becomes their noose.

So... eh...

Yeah. I listen to 'em on the daily, yo.

It's very difficult to find good music with good lyrics together in the same song, these days.
