Hello fellow Escapists! *waves*

I was in the market for a few free MMOs when I came across these folks http://www.perfectworld.com/ they seemed to have a ton of games, and If I remember correctly...they had just bought the studio that makes Champions Online.

So needles to say I'm interested. However I'd like to put it out there to any of you who play these games.

How stable are they? How well do they run?

Is there anything I should know, before I download any of them?

Do they use GameGuard (If so then I wont try any of em)?

Are any of them fun?

Just curious. ^_^

What I have played generally run well and play well, but what I've played rely on microtransactions; to the point where it becomes unfeasable mid way through the game to level without either shelling out for an experience boost (real money) or grinding to the point of excruciating boredom.

Yikes...ok that's something to keep in mind. Thank you.

Also I don't know if anyone knows but can the games be played windowed? I prefer my MMOs windowed so I can chat on MSN at the same time.

The Perfect World team seems to be notorious for running their F2P MMO's like a pay-to-win service. They need to make money and that's totally fine, but I hear a lot of bad press about just how strongly they force the issue.

Been a while since I played them, but their games generally ran pretty well, but as said above, it does come to a point where you either need to pay for what you need, or you grind the hell out of the game.

So if your willing to pay, it might be fun, but I gave up before then.

I played Perfect World (the mmo) quite a while ago, probably a year or 2 ago now I come to think about it, and although it seemed a bit unfinished it was really good for a free MMO.

Each class has it's own starting area full of quests right up until like level 10, and then you have another load of quests as all of the starter areas converge at the capital city around level 20. I played up until level 20 thinking it was brilliant, but once I got to that point I noticed a serious lack of quests. I would imagine there's a good deal of new content by now.

~ To answer your question they seem like pretty good developers, definitely not the worst out there. Just realised they made Battle of Immortals too, that was another fairly decent MMO from what I played.

Hrmm...yes those are things to consider. No matter how pretty a game is if I need up paying through the nose for everything than I'd be best to just stick with EQ2.

Glad to see that they are stable games however.

Keep the experiences coming ...I'm kinda on the fence now. o_O

Urgh...
BOTI is so secretly sinister, in my opinion.
It looks nice, but the universe is quite lacking in interesting lore and the multiplayer element, which is kinda the point with MMOs, is not particularly stimulating. The game relies on coming back to it multiple times a day to do the little quests they give you, and it seems to me like a fantasy MMO version of Farmville.
And with the money-grubbing, to boot.

Perfect World, as Dexiro said, seems really great for the first dozen levels or so, but the pressure to give PWE your money begins to become near constant pretty quick.
And the community is... generally quite tolerable compared to many other F2P MMORPGs, but not as many people seemed interested in discussing more cerebral endeavors as I would have hoped.

What I'd do is roll a wingelf healer, go fly around the continent for a few hours, and be done with the game.
I mean, it is worth giving a try just to go fly around the big place, and wingelf healers get infinite flying from level 1.

Hmmm....more to think about.

Oh I've heard that some of these games rely on IE? I have Chrome as my default browser and I don't like to open up IE for any reason...at all. o_O

Any issues in that regard?

Ah I don't think I played either of them for long enough to notice any of these money grubbing issues that everyone's talking about :p

Also I'm like the new captcha's, can actually read these ones!

Well I gave in and at least had a look at Perfect World. While I can see the grinding aspects of it from a mile away for a 'free' game it's not that bad.

Actually visually it's very nice...stunning at times...and the music is calming and well made.

Unlike a subscription game I can just leave this one whenever I feel like it....that's what I like about F2P I can drop it when I get bored. For now I think I'll just enjoy the games quirky charm a nd bold visuals.

...really I had no idea the game was this bright and stunning. O_O

Thank you all for your advice and opinions.

PWI is good, great even, but grindy as hell. The cash shop used to be perfect, players would only buy new flying machines and clothing. It's kinda sad though, they caved and made a lottery item which shot the value of gold up.

Anyways, if you could detail what other game types you like, I'm sure I could help. I've been through (no lie here) hundreds of MMORPGs for long enough to know how they play generally. Just lemme know if you want some direction.
