Yeah, I heard about this... but...

Did you know that Stephen Hawking's already invented a perpetual motion machine? It's how he rolls! ;D

My brother thourght he could create perpetual motion with a pipe and some marbles

yeah he was very bored that day
was he successful?
Unfortunatley as brilliant as the concept was it didnt get very far

there was the time when we were kids be belived he could design a car that ran soley on magnets

no I am not making this up

sorry to bump this thread.. but i just need to say in response to all this. nothing is impossible. when i say that, i'm not talking about humans. humans may never achieve perpetual motion. but that does not mean it is not possible. just take a moment to think of our small planet. there are quite a few anomalies right under our noses. now broaden your view to our small solar system. compare that with the galaxy. and the galaxy with the universe. and the universe quite possibly among OTHER universes (though not yet proven). there is so much out there that we could never dream of. so many materials that we don't know exist. materials that may have very special properties. how do you explain every exception to the laws of thermodynamics?... now tell me that anything is impossible. laws are made to be broken. the 3 laws of thermodynamics were made based on observation and conclusions drawn from those observations. how can we state that anything is impossible simply b/c these laws state that its not possible. we haven't even scratched the surface on true science. i'm not saying that perpetual motion is possible. i'm merely making it clear that you can't just say something is impossible based on the laws of thermodynamics(which again are simply OUR conclusions on OUR observations[which have been very limited]).

**these laws were made so that we could progress and advance in understanding of the way our physical universe acts; not so that we exclude ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that doesn't fit into our definition of the universe. they should be expanded or even changed as we learn more about everything.
The laws of thermodynamics have stood up to about one hundred and fifty years of experiments. I think this page [http://www.projectrho.com/rocket/thermodynamics.php] is relevant, along with this one [http://www.projectrho.com/rocket/respectscience.php], and this picture:

People have been trying to skirt the laws of thermodynamics for decades. Nobody's even come close to anything legitimate.
-thats a long time... of course, the Romans said that their empire would never ever fall... in fact, it lasted for centuries. but in the end, it did fall. nothing is made to last. things are made to accommodate the specific circumstances at that time. same with laws.. whether they are scientific or political. haha they can be redefined to fit the situation.

-and i'm not real sure what these websites really have to do with anything.. other than the heat energy one which simply says that heat can't be destroyed or created.. only moved. they have to do with science fiction. i'm talking about stuff that we may never discover.. but its still true. and i also said that it may not be humanly possible. but that doesn't mean that it is IMPOSSIBLE. just because "Nobody's even come close to anything legitimate"... doesn't mean that its impossible.

The Romans didn't have a universal law of physics backing up that their empire would never fall. In fact, you say nothing is made to last, and that is precisely why a perpetual motion machine is impossible. If one where possible it would have to last forever, not just several years, decades or millenia, but infinitely after the heat-death of the universe. When all the stars have burned out and turn into atoms, the perpetual motion machine, if it were possible, would be floating through space chugging away.

You cannot make a system that creates energy. That in a nutshell is what a perpetual motion machine does, ergo it's impossible.
