This may be weird, but I really don't like watching someone else play a one player game. I hate having to point out the obvious to a friend playing. When you have your own style of playing a game, it's annoying to watch someone play differently. Does anyone else feel this or am I just weird?

You notice things others don't, especially because you aren't playing. It's natural.

Yeah, I tend to do that...when my girlfriend plays. But now I just go along with it, not mentioning anything until her inevitable death. I used to get worked up over things like that, especially when the person would never have seen what I was pointing out, for reasons unbeknownst to me, but I've lighten up on that over the past few years. Most of us gamers who have been playing for a long time can point out pixellations of moving characters/traps and what not. To the average player though, this skill remains a mystery.

Its a gift, don't try and rub it in other's faces =P

I let my friend borrow Resident Evil 4 once. I was playing while he was out of the room and, to my horror, I realized that he had inverted the controls so that down was up and vice versa.
Alos, I thought this was really funny, he complained to me about Leon being slow. Then I told him how to run. Then he liked the game better.

Yeah definitely, I don't know how many times I've been trying to point out an objective to a friend and I end up saying something like this "Ok right there....no to the left...not that far...now back to the right...no, no, no...now turn and STOP....ok forward now."

You're friends just love that don't they! :p

I would have to say, those who claim they know something but can't back up their argument. Or those who don't want to debate, they just take whatever they believe for granted. I don't mind others opinions,in fact I like discussing and questioning them for my own curiosity. But if they're being zealous then I have NO time for them. Just say you don't know!

That or when someone takes it upon themselves to represent you and your collective, fair enough if you know me, but if we just met don't mind blind predictions.

I hate watching other people play video games... Cause I'm just like... "Well.. Why didn't you go do that first instead of that?" Then, if they're watching me play they go on about how I'm doing everything wrong. :p So annoying.

It's the same problem people have with riding in a car instead of driving: everyone has a different style, so seeing someone do the same thing differently makes you think it's wrong.

Are you trying to say:-

she was terrible?
OR
you punished her by making her suck balls?

Ha... banter!

I'm the exact opposite, I don't mind watching someone else play to an extent, but having them watch me and then point out things constantly drives me insane...

I am the pinnacle of laziness. I like watching people play videogames instead of playing them myself. I always point out snipers that he's not paying attention to, so it's a win-win.

I used to hate watching people play. Then I saw a Quake 2 Instagib duel between two mates of mine, both with inhuman Quake skills.

That was frightening to watch.

So now my rule is only watch people who are better than me.

Yeah I do the same thing. My girlfriend gets pissed at me. But now we play Left 4 Dead. Anyway she really likes Fallout 3, so I will be watching her and she will pass up the switch that she needs to press for a quest and I will scream at her. "You passed the switch Artard!!"

Yeah, I know what you mean. There's a difference between watching some random person play a game and watching a pro play it. On an unrelated note, instagib is the greatest gamemode in UT ever.

EDIT:

It depends on two things for me:

1) Is the person actually any good at video games or at the very least the game they are playing?

2) Do I like the game or play it myself?

If someone is playing a game that I like, then I mostly don't mind. I don't mind because normally if that person gets stuck, then they ask me for some help. Games that I have no interest in though do bother me because I just don;t like them.
The person as well is very much a factor for me as well. I love watching a few of my friends play Halo online because of the fact that it leads to some funny ass moments. When they play something like a baseball game and they are just terrible it gets annoying.
One thing that kinda annoys me as well is when people start to watch me play a game. This gets really annoying when you come close to dying or make a jump and it looks a little short and the people watching gasp or say something like, "You are about to die!"
"Yes thank you for telling me, would you like to fix that for me?"

I don't find it all that hard to watch other people play, seeing as most take my advice and understand what I'm saying pretty easily. The opposite is rather annoying though, especially around rowdier and snarkier friends. I'm big into RP, to the point that immersion is one of my most coveted qualities in a game. I often find myself thinking of scenarios and small stories for my actions in a game (Just recently I was going over the thought of my tribe of bird-folk's exploits in Spore in cinematic format). That being so, having someone crack a joke at the unusual nature of a game throws off my immersion and irritates me to no end. Another problem with my immersion is that I pick up my surroundings a lot faster than most. The following scenario usually occurs:

Me (thinking): Alright, there's three enemies with assault rifles in the main field, one behind them with a missile launcher, and a sniper hiding off to the right. Let's sneak over here like so...

Friend: Look, bad guys!

Me (thinking): Yes, I see them. Alright, let's get a grenade in there, and...

Friend: Look out, one of them has a rocket launcher!

Me: Mmhmm. (For christ's sake, I can see. Let's just go over here and gun him down, and run to some cover to take care of the sniper...)

*several seconds pass, in which the sniper has taken a couple of shots at me and it's pretty obvious I'm hiding from him. He might even show up on the screen once or twice in the process*

Friend: Where is he? What's that shooting from? I think he might be over there... Oh, there he is! Up there!

Me: ... (Now I know how Link felt in Ocarina of Time...)

UT will always be my second favourite multiplayer FPS. It was the perfect balance of twitch gameplay, awesome weapons, superior levels and Redeemer. 2003 was arse, 2004 close and the last one just didn't have the same feel.

Long weekends playing 4 player Doom, deathmatch, over daisy-chained serial cables. Nothing will top those memories, simply for the amount of piss-farting around we needed to go through to get it working, made the game so much better for it.

I remember that one time, the game kept on failing, so I went straight into tech support mode.

"Versions!" "All 1.9"
"Size of Doom2.exe!" "All the same"
"Size of Doom2.wad!" "All the... wait, one stupid clod modified his iwad"

In those days, copying a 30 meg file to another computer in the same room was an exercise in hair-pulling frustration, as nobody ever brought a parallel cable.
