So lets say you are in a office or something like that, you share the room with a few people. One of the people that shares the office had to leave for a few minutes for like a meeting or whatever, they will be back. Their personal cell phone starts to ring like crazy and it is some obnoxious song/ring tone. And it just keeps going off. Do you turn it off or put it on silence?

Also, just assume you can't easily get to the person it belongs to.

Another option, does the phone being out in the open v. being in a draw or purse make a difference in how you react?

This one happens to me all the time. Particularly with my bosses phone. Typically I ignore it but it does get under my skin.

"WHO WAS PHONE?!"
You aren't in the board room, you are in a office workspace.

Try to ignore it. Give them a chance to hear it ringing and rush back to answer it, you know? Once it's sufficiently under my skin, I'll turn it off and let the person know that someone called while they were gone.

Pick it up, ask for a double pepperoni, then in the confusion, state that you must have dialled the wrong number, then hang up.

This happened to me once, except that I actually could get to the person that owned the phone. So I just said to her "Here's a singing telegram for you." and sung "Your phone's ringing!"

Yeah, if the person is just down the hall and not busy, I tend to do the same thing. But when they are in a meeting and can't be interrupted, that is a different story.

I'd just ignore it.

If its one of my friends, I answer the phone the way I always do:

Hello, this is __________ lover Anthony talking. I'm afraid _________ cant come to the phone right now because we just finished an epic session of bed baseball and HE'S currently stopping the bleeding after I gave him a particularly intense pitching with a spike metal bat. May I take a message?

Or if its a girl:

Hello, this is ________'s phone, she is currently away and can not come to the phone right now. Please leave your message so that I may tell her later. OH! and if this is ____________ We KNOW you're the baby's daddy and the child support checks are still not occupying the mail box! Snap to it skippy!

I'd pick it up and have a lovely conversation with the person on the other end about delicious sausage sandwiches, then ask them what their favorite waffle recipe is.
