Today, my school was holding a senior assembly in commemoration of the achievements of our rifle shooting team and similar activities.

As such, my spirits were rather low. At my school, assemblies are by no means an enjoyable affair, tending to drag on for far too long about subject matters I don't particularly care for.

I took my seat and braced for the oncoming slew of too long speeches, then stood up to the call of "Please stand for the official party."

The piano started to play as the most important people of the upcoming assembly walked into the hall and it struck me.
I knew that song.
As the official party arrived, they were serenaded by a piano score of this:

Suddenly, the assembly became a lot more tolerable. Coupled with some genuinely amusing moments, it was far better than I had hoped. But the end made it beautiful.
When the opening song played, I was the only person to really recognise it. The closing song, however, was far more famous.
Everyone cracked up. The laughter rang throughout the hall as the official party left, marking it the best assembly I've ever been to.

So tell me. Has music from a game ever popped up somewhere you would not expect, to your amusement? Are there any you would like to?
Any recommendations you have of good video game music would also be appreciated.

The Morrowind Theme Song was once played during a medieval faire in some town I was visiting during my vacation.

Ha, that is awesome, did they even know where those tunes came from? or did the rifle team suggest those songs?

The music is mainly up to the person playing the piano. In this case, the kid was rather renowned for his video game music playing, be it Final Fantasy to Metroid.

For my friend's graduation assembly, they played
from EarthBound. I would've paid to be there.

As for game music recommendations...

Well, I listen to more game music than I do any other kind, so if you want more specific recommendations just ask me privately (be sure to specify the type you want). As it is, I'd like to some day dance (as in ballroom dancing) to

An OC remix of the best song in Ace Attorney.

Back at my old school, There used to be a band that practiced almost every lunchtime, and when I say band, I mean guitars and drumkits, not brass band. Anyhoo they usually practice with things like the White stripes, you know, the usual. But one day they tried to play quite a few Marathon themes.

They sounded quite awesome. But none of my friends recognised it.

I heard Fionn Regan playing in a café yesterday, which was pretty nice, since he's still fairly obscure.
Nothing as cool as the OP, though. Unfortunately.

There was a story here recently about Fox News playing the OoT indoor theme during a news story..

We had a sweet music teacher back at school who played the organ for assemblies and he would slip little bits and pieces into the music sometimes, very subtle though!

One of the ones which got noticed by more than a couple of people was his inclusion of The Simpson's theme tune one day. He did loads of others but it was years ago so I have forgotten!

It would always be a great moment when we would get new sheet music in orchestra and find the Jurassic Park theme or Star Wars or Lord of the Rings.
