Some friends and I are thinking of starting up an animated series that focuses on a video game character. I've been assigned as the lead writer and there's this one idea that I wanna play around with. Now I've already told my friends and they seem cool with it but I wonder what my fellow Escapists think.

The basic concept is this. A fictional, popular video game character discovers that both he and his universe has been changed as the result of a revamp/reboot on the part of his company trying to improve sales. The series would basically deal with how he adjusts to the changes, recognizing his existence and the ever changing relationships he shares with the rest of the cast, while trying to live his life (actually the new game being played during Beta Testing).

As you can see its a very "Meta" orientated story with various layers of meta-fiction. I'm fairly confident I can make this work as a "Dramedic" series and my friends seem excited. What do you guys think?

Sounds good, throw in a few fourth wall-breaking moments and SOME knowing nods and you should be fine.

Would you swap over the series each week/month/decade or would you focus on one particular series?

Kinda sounds like a Comic Jumper animated series, but a bit more serious and with a video game character. So, of course I'm all for it as it would be awesome.

Well, we're not too sure actually. At the moment we only really have the concept and a few ideas. We do like the idea of a simple, self contained series which we might break down into smaller fragments like how the original Avatar: The Legend of Aang was handled.

Having just discovered what Comic Jumper is, I have to say that is pretty darned cool! The major inspiration however came from Alan Moore's amazing run on Supreme. We are also hoping to make it a mix a dramatic existentialism and comedic self awareness. We're basically going for a Dramedy.

Sorry to bump but I'm a little more curious as to what people think.
So far, we've decided that the Main character is a pastiche/homage of Mario.
He's an Engineer named Hitch who lives in the retro-futuristic Metrotown, protecting the city and saving the Mayor from the game's Antagonist.
