Now I'm sure these have been done to death, but I figure one more of these topics can't hurt!

Anyhow, I decided to give that eHarmony (yeah, yeah, it's lame, I know, just hear me out) a try since they have a free promotional month going on in February for obvious reasons and I think I found a potentially wonderful person! I was reading through all the potential matches (starting with the folks closer to home) but they were all too... active, for my tastes, until I stumbled on the last one and, lo' and behold, she's into video games!

My heart skipped a beat for a moment when I read she was into Star Trek, enjoyed science and math (okay, I hate math, but I'm not perfect either), and best of all; she's a gamer! Here's the kicker though; eHarmony thought it would be HILARIOUS to taunt me with a great match by saying, "'K! So you only wanted people 30 minutes away at most, but we found somebody in ALABAMA who is great for you! What? You live in Minnesota? Well we have a LOT of fine gals who are into sports, traveling, and excel at being your complete opposite over there!"

So here's the question and potential discussion: Can I still try to talk to this person? Maybe try some online gaming from across the states and see if we have even more similar tastes and activities? Would it be a good idea or kind of creepy?

You could try communicating through eHarmony, since I can't see how that would be creepy. Personally, I think seeing her through eHarmony, then contacting her via any other means would be creepier (in most scenarios)

Alright, going to give it shot and see where it lands me. Just needed a little nudge from the internet giving me the green light that I won't be doing something horribly wrong!

Well, I've come to terms with an actual relationship being out of the question at this point, what with college, family, job, friends, etc. being prominent in my area, but hey, who doesn't like new friends!

There we go! :)

Also, there are lots of other people out there, she certainly can't be the only one. Does eHarmony allow you to search by region though? That might narrow your search results to people within x miles or in your town, and you could more feasibly find someone who is close enough to pursue a relationship in if that's the case. :)
Yeah, like I said in the original post, it DOES allow you to narrow down by region (I selected a 30 minute drive distance maximum and made it clear that's what I was looking at by adjusting the slider accordingly), but in some cruel twist of fate, I wound up getting a great match light years away and 10+ matches with folks that live within 30 minutes who are probably looking for somebody who isn't happy under his rock based on the descriptions.

I definitely appreciate the optimism! It's good to know somebody besides the handsome man in the mirror believes there's always somebody out there!
