"This song goes out to all the hopeless sinners,
with grave allegiances, so meaningless and vain;

The walking wounded in a pagent of contenders,
who balance on a rail of pain for just a pail of rain

From Bad Religion's "All There Is".

Then, also from Bad Religion ("Supersonic")
What is time but a thing to kill or keep or buy or lose or live in?

And last but not least for now, A Wilhelm Scream describing pop music in one brilliant line in the aptly named song "I Wipe My Ass With Showbiz";
Verse-chorus, verse-chorus, a solo, then boom

So I been sitting around
Wasting my time
Wondering what you been doing
Aw, and it ain't real forgiving
It ain't real forgiving
Sitting here picturing someone else living...

I've been hoping for months
Hoping for years
Hoping I might forget
Aw, but it don't get much dumber
It don't get much dumber
Than trying to forget a girl when you love her

Needing/Getting by OkGO just kinda describes me at the moment for my whole life I think "Too much time on my hands" by Styx

The lyrics to "The Sound of Muzak" by Porcupine Tree:

Hear the sound of music
Drifting in the aisles
Elevator prozac
Stretching on for miles

The music of the future
Will not entertain
It's only meant to repress
And neutralise your brain

Soul gets squeezed out
Edges get blunt
Demographic
Gives what you want

Now the sound of music
Comes in silver pills
Engineered to suit you
Building cheaper thrills

The music of rebellion
Makes you wanna rage
But it's made by millionaires
Who are nearly twice your age

One of the wonders of the world is going down
It's going down I know
It's one of the blunders of the world that no-one cares
No-one cares enough

Great song about what "the industry" is doing to music as a whole.

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

"A stranger is just a friend that you haven't met, but a friend is an enemy you haven't pissed off yet"
not sure if I got that word for word.

Pretty much the whole of Dustland Fairytale by The Killers. Flowers really puts his all into it and you can tell that tears were shed in the writing of it.

The Dustland Fairytale beginning
With just another white trash county kiss in '61.
Long brown hair, and foolish eyes.
He'd look just like you'd want him to
Some kind of slick chrome American prince.

Blue Jean serenade
Moon river what you do to me.
I don't believe you.

Saw Cinderella in a party dress, she was looking for a nightgown.
I saw the devil wrapping up his hands, he's getting ready for the showdown.
I saw the minute that I turned away, I got my money on a pawn tonight.

Change came in disguise of revelation, set his soul on fire.
She said she always knew he'd come around.
And the decades disappear
Like sinking ships but we persevere.
God gives us hope but we still fear, we don't know.

Your mind is poisoned.
Castles in the sky, sit stranded, vandalized.
The drawbridge is closing.

Saw Cinderella in a party dress, she was looking for a nightgown.
I saw the devil wrapping up his hands, he's getting ready for the showdown.
I saw the ending where they turned the page, I threw my money and I ran away.
Sent to the valley of the great divide
Out where the dreams all hide.
Out where the wind don't blow,
Out here the good girls die.
And the sky moves slow
Out here the bird don't sing
Out here the field don't blow
Out here the bell don't ring
Out hear the bell don't ring
Out here the good girls die
Now Cinderella don't you go to sleep, it's such a bitter form of refuge.
Why don't you know the kingdoms under siege and everybody needs you
Is there still magic in the midnight sun, or did you leave it back in '61?
In the cadence of a young man's eyes.
Out where the dreams all hide

I am by no means religious but " though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil"
kicks ass.
every time i hear this i laugh.. because in my school we have a morning assembly every day. and one day in assembly me and 2 other 6th years (senior year) were asked to read several of the lines from "the lord is my shepard" in the extremely old version "yae though i walk throgh the valley of the shadow of death, i will fear no evil, for you are with me" and then the king james version "even though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death, i will fear no evil, for thou art with me" and then finally, the part i got to read, was a modern day version that basically used big fancy words to say the same thing "notwithstanding the fact that i make ambulatory progress through the non-illuminated inter-hill mortality slot, terror sensations shall not be observed within me due to the proximity of the omnipotence"

there was 9 lines that were translated like that... i have no idea who came up with them.. but whenever i hear the original lines from them i cant help but think back and laugh

Who says the bible is full of boring stuff?
Reminds me of the USAF quote:

"Though I travel through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil - for I am at 80,000 feet and climbing.

That bit strangely reminded me of Enter Shikari...

Instead of staring at your stella desperately for inspiration
Belt up and quiver at your indignation
I ain't saying anything that can be construde as an apology
There's another case study for anthropology

I know, let's announce embargoes and denounce our far foes
In-growing egos a syntax he knows
It's just distance that seperates us
Or are we really ethnocentrically inclined... ?

Followed by a delicious

MATE! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU ON ABOUT?!
This is the draconian law
I protest!
I protest!
Put up, squad up!

But seriously.
"The fact that we live at the bottom of a deep gravity well, on the surface of a gas covered planet going around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and think this to be normal is obviously some indication of how skewed our perspective tends to be. " - Douglas Adams

"The size and age of the Cosmos are beyond ordinary human understanding. Lost somewhere between immensity and eternity is our tiny planetary home. In a cosmic perspective, most human concerns seem insignificant, even petty. And yet our species is young and curious and brave and shows much promise.
"In the last few millennia we have made the most astonishing and unexpected discoveries about the Cosmos and our place within it, explorations that are exhilarating to consider. They remind us that humans have evolved to wonder, that understanding is a joy, that knowledge is prerequisite to survival. I believe our future depends powerfully on how well we understand this Cosmos in which we float like a mote of dust in the morning sky." - Carl Sagan

Well one that always resonated with me is from Weezer's Beverly Hills:

Where I come from isn't all that great. My automobile is a piece of crap. My fashion sense is a little wack and my friends are just as cool as me.

So much so that for my improv comedy team, that's my "theme song"

I'm just going to quote The Distillers a bunch, because they just wrote some really powerful stuff.

It's a ghost town
Rabid underworld
Dionysian night vitriolic twilight
A mirage comes up
It never ends
Once you get burned your never the same
Left behind
Erased from time
Ain't no decency in being boxed up alive
Look around at the RIP signs here
We don't rest in peace we just disappear
So here we are Los Angeles
No angel's singing in the valley of unease
I watch the sun roll down in the cities'
Over-hookered sunset strip

They say
It's the city of angels
All I see is dead wings

City of Angels-The Distillers

I come down like a hurricane sucked up inside
Now I spit out the suffering
You say you want a revelation
Revel in this my lover
You?re free at liberty is this what you want
Sometimes I wonder?

There?s a highway to, to the edge yeah
Once a night you will drive yourself there
At the end of the road you will find the answer
At the end of the road you will drink abyss

come down like a bloody rain cuts up flesh sky,
Pulse beating under, yeah
Meat petals bloom in a bone garden
Ain?t no god, no ghost gonna save you now

Hall of Mirrors-The Distillers

We are the revenants
and we will rise up from the dead
to become the living
and we are back-to-reclaim our stolen breath

I Am A Revenant-The Distillers

Coupled with Brody's strong delivery, there's nothing quite like it.

Lyrics are pretty self-explanatory.

Sabaton - Angels Calling
Sent to kill, to watch no man's land
Snipers are moving unseen
Fight for land, to lose it again
Shrapnel is filling the air

Hell on earth, the trenches mean death, better keep your head down low
Charge their lines, the ultimate test it's a synchronized sacrifice

Get the wounded after dark
Left alone in no man's land
Maddening chaos at the front

Dream of heaven
Angels are calling your name

Shells and guns, a rifle and scope
Bullets are wearing your name
Losing track of time and of space
Midnight at sanity's edge

Losing friends to artillery shells, at the break of dawn
Break their will, as yours has been broken, they're here alone, dream of home

Charge at dawn to gain a yard
Scout at night to guard their lines
Leave your life in fortunes hand

When the bullet hits it's mark
Know your time in hell has been served
You won't return to home

I cut your nails and comb your hair
I carry you down the stairs
I wanted to see right through from the other side
I wanted to walk a trail with no end in sight

I raise my hands to heaven of curiosity
I don't know what to ask for
What has it got for me?
The others say we're hiding
It's as forward as can be
Some things I do for money
Some things I do for free

"marble house" by the knife

Pretty much the whole song strikes me for different reasons, particularly the last stanza and the first stanza which I have here. It feels almost claustrophobic and obsessive. It could describe anything from an abusive romantic relationship to the strained relationship between a grandparent/grandchild, and on and on.
