Because the steam summer sale is going on, I decided I would get into steam and download some old favourites while they were so damn cheap. I reformatted an older PC I have so that it had sufficiant RAM and all that the play the ones I wanted (The newest of the games came out in 2005, they aren't exactly a strain on most PC's) and signed up. But then when I went to install the games, I ran into a problem. I don't have enough hard drive space for the games (Only 188 MB left). I didn't figure it would be a problem because I have a 1TB external hard drive and I've run games off of it in the past but steam won't let me install the games because it isn't recognizing the external hard drive and is saying that I only have that 188 MB left.

Basically, I need to know if I can run steam games off an external hard drive by downloading them straight to an external hard drive, and if I can how this would be done. If anyone knows I would greatly appreciate the help, I really want to play me some Vice City =) Thanks

PS, sorry if there are any bad errors, I've been awake for more than 36 hours now so some typos might be slipping through my sleep deprived brain's perception.

PPS, I tried posting this in the advice forum but haven't had any luck so I tried reposting it in the more popular games discussion thread. Sorry if this is looked down upon, I've been here for a year and never really noticed anyone post the same thread in two sections so I have no idea what the Mods think of this. Sorry again if this is bad, I just want some help.

In future try not to duplicate threads, you've got till the 10th of july to sort this problem so I'll duplicate my previous comment... go to sleep, the advice can wait a few hours

Already Got'cha covered =) I posted it five hours ago and just woke up now, I feel quite a bit better. I just usually think a thread with 10 views in 5 hours is a pretty dead thread, although the advice forum may be a bit different I suppose =P

Just install Steam on the other hard drive.
