It's not often that I would make a public post about my own gaming ineptness but Psychonauts I am loving so much that now that I am stuck, I feel I need to ask questions to the rest of the Escapists.

Basically, I downloaded Psychonauts to my Xbox, eager to finally give it a go. I play like mad and have the time of my life, eventually as the plot thickened:

I fought the giant lungfish, earned her allegiance and was sent to the lunatic asylum guarded by the paranoid guard. I then go to enter his brain to allow myself entrance to the asylum so I can rescue the girl and be the hero and then.... bam, I get a message saying that I might not get very far without the all important telekinesis ability, which can only be unlocked at rank 20.

And thus, everything grinds to a halt. I have no idea what rank I am currently, the controls are different considering it was made for the original Xbox control set up but I'm playing it on a 360 (took me a while to work out the Black+white button configuration) moreso however I don't know if there's any way to proceed, the villain has been established, it's night time now, every other child's brain has been stolen and now it just about seems to be the final battle time.

And yet, I haven't ranked up very high, and didn't do a lot of the extra stuff in the campsite 'hubworld' because I was too eager to go from mission to mission. So now I'm wondering if there's anyway to continue ranking up, or if I can proceed without doing so, or if I need to reload a save from a long time ago and keep working to rank up by collecting stuff.

I guess I'm just wondering if there's any way to salvage my current situation or if I have just blundered past the point of no return without realizing it.

So yes, given that I imagine there are a few people who have played Psychonauts before, can anyone give me some advice in this department?

You need to collect more figments, scavenger hunt items and PSI cards/Cores from the various levels and the Camp.
You can hit up past levels via the Collective Unconscious that's accessed from the Brain Tumbler in Sasha Nein Lab.
It can be accessed even if you hit the Point of no Return, which you haven't. Also if your in the guard's mind makes sure you have the cob web duster from the camp store or your not going to get very far.

Hope this helped some what

Thanks, you have been quite helpful, though admittedly given that the web duster costs 800 Arrowheads and I only have 400 I'm in for a bit of a grind.

But still, thanks for giving me some information, nice to be on the right track.
