A question about iTunes

Help me Obi-wan escapist, you're my only hope.
If I download music on iTunes, am I able to play it on other programs/ my mp3 player or does it only work on apple programs?

I think iTunes can only synchronise with an Apple product. :/

but you can always put the songs onto WMP (Windows Media Player) or something, and just use iTunes as your default music player when you're at the computer. =P

Edit: How funny is it that I changed my Skype name to Sky Solo last night, and now this? xD Star Wars references are everywhere lately.
