A question about life and death

Lying in bed before the new term starts, a thought occured to me: "if I was injured in some horrible accident that made it so I would never be able to interact with the world again, would I technically be dead?"
For the sake of argument, lets say I am injured so my entire body is paralyzed, I can still breathe and digest normally, and my brain works just fine. So I am pretty much permanently asleep and nothing can wake me up from this sleep.
Would you say that in this situation, that I am dead?
Part of me wants to say "yes I am dead" because I have lost the ability to interact with and influence the world around me, but another part of me refuses to accept that the status of life is determined by interaction with the world.
In this extreme case it might be easy to say "you dead bro", but what about less extreme cases? What if I can have a brain transplant or potentially be woken up? What about hermits who do everything they can to minimize their interactions with the world?

So I have two questions for you:
1. In the situation where I am perma-asleep, would you say that I am dead?
2. Does an organism's ability to interact with and influence it's environment, determine it's status as living or not?

And please no "yes" or "no" answers. I am looking for well thought out replies, not youtube comments.

I believe that there is no point in living if you cannot interact with the world, so yes, you would be dead.

I agree with this. While technically you would still be alive you would be in a constant vegetative state. We've been here before, yes your dead.

If you had a brain transplant (if it was possible) then I'd imagine that the person who supplied the brain would continue to live on in your body, rather than you.

Jonny gets his gun comes to mind: blind deaf dumb mute can't feel, no arms, no legs, wants to die because he can't tell if his current world is real.

I'd say that being able to interact with the world helps form a major part of our consciousness, so technically you'd be alive, but you wouldn't experience life as a traditional human. Interacting with the environment isn't a prerequisite for sentience, but there isn't any sentient life that has evolutionarily adapted to this (for obvious reasons).

I wouldn't mind being disconnected from my consciousness, if it was a choice between that and death.
