I'll try to be succinct with this story;

I've played ME2 through five times and so far I haven't saved everyone so I put up a topic about it (I know what to do now) mostly because I was really getting annoyed that my logic was failing me in figuring out how to get through without deaths.

Anyway after a lot of helpful posts one guy just started a tirade about how shit the game was and how stupid I was for liking it etc. and I just kind of thought he had wasted his time putting up the message and told him. The weird thing is he keeps trying to tell me about how terrible the game is and how it is insanley glitchy and bad.

I'm mostly curious what it is he seems to believe he is doing. Does a person doing this think they are really helping another person see the error of their ways? Do they think I will have a sudden awakening and Hate what I love and love what I hate?

It would be easy to scream troll, which is something I have encountered several times purely because of differing opinions e.g. I hate harry potter, but I don't like that idea because it makes it easier to just dismiss the next person even if this one is just a troll.

Anyway my whole point is what do you think with regard to not only this situation but the situations you have encountered with the same parallels.

Opinions are just that. A set of beliefs one forms about a subject and they should be respected not be forced upon others in order change another.

Often people have trouble differentiating between opinion and fact. If, for example, you had stated 'the average lifespan of a newt is 486 seconds', then he would have been justified in correcting you. I expect he simply forgot the difference when he was posting at you.

[sub]Oh, and is there a link to a high-res version of the chart you found in response to the other thread? The one you linked to was a little low-res for my liking (and eyes).[/sub]

I recently encountered a somewhat similar situation - a discussion over a game (Morrowind) and other RPGs that devolved into one individual ranting about how no game would ever have a good story again, because they weren't Fallout 1&2/Arcanum/Baldur's Gate/what-have-you.
Not that I dislike the games he brought up, but storytelling isn't quite a dead art, as shown with Bioware and Bethesda games, although their quality may be debatable with some people.

Anywho, people like to throw their own opinions at other people because they like to feel right. If you disagree and make them feel wrong, chances are they're going to become upset. This holds true on the internet moreso than real life, where it's much easier to be ranting and raving on without getting a sock in the jaw for being a silly twat.

This.

Also note that humanity seems to believe that "To me, my opinion is fact" makes a shred of sense and is a valid reason to force their opinion on others.
I get the definition of an opinion but what I'm mostly wondering is at what point does having an opinion cease to be reasonable and become frothy-mouthed trollery.

I do not but I managed to read the important parts want me to block out the necessaries?

When you force it upon others, accepting your opinion as the ONLY "correct" opinion.
That's when it becomes trollery.

No, I'll manage without, thanks. I just like charts I find on the internet like that one, for some reason. I don't even own Mass Effect 2...

Too bad. Unless you don't like BioWare then it would be silly to get it.

Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Seriously, just because it's your opinion, does not make it special, because more than likely a lot of people have one just like it.

Immediately when you start pushing it one someone who didn't ask and likely doesn't give a supersonic fuck what your opinion is.
Wow a supersonic fuck sounds really unpleasant.

Ask yourself this: Are the allegations he made about ME2 true, about the glitches and stuff? If so and you still like the game, then just tell him so and move on. If the allegations are not true then it's up to you if you want to argue with him.

Well I asked him why it was so important that he leave the post, in spite of the fact that I don't care, and he just kind of continued. Then I said I don't care I still like it and he complained about the series being ruined to cater to my types.

It all sounds silly but like I said above I don't want to just dismiss it because you do something once you'll do it twice and eventually I might start dismissing people purely because they don't agree with me.

I think he's just trolling. The only time something like that can be legitimate is concerning religion. I'm an atheist and I hate when people try and convert me but I know in most cases they're well intentioned. I pity really religious people who take the Bible to be absolute fact though. They've been brainwashed since birth and I wish they could see that but they never will.

Hahahaha... the game was just awful... Deal with it.
The plot made no sense, the voice acting wasn't as good, there were so many glitches (on the PC version), the characters weren't remotely likeable, they ruined the exploration side of things, you couldn't go back to any area you'd already been to.
They brought in scanning, and got rid of the mako (the mako was a good idea just not executed all that well, though I had no complaints), the new paragon and renegade action system was just crap.

They tied medi-gel into biotic powers cooldown (that makes no sense whatsoever) as well as ammo being a biotic power?
Seriously did bioware or that fucking hack Drew Karpyshyn put any thought into this game at all? They gutted the Vanguard, and made them very useless. Charge was crap because you'd use it and then due to the absolutely retarded cover system, go to run away and then get stuck on a wall or crate. Next thing you know you're dead because you couldn't escape.
All your old team members got maybe a 5 minute cameo (apart from Tali Ray Na'Zorah), that was it.

And finally the piece de resistance, the
[spoiler\]Human Reaper[/spoiler].
Seriously what the hell were bioware thinking? The plot barely made enough sense up until that part. How the hell would that have allowed them to indoctrinate the human race easier? It was pointless, arbitrary and just plain retarded.

Everyone raved about this game and god knows why.
Every aspect of the first game that worked and was decently thought out, they took and just tore to pieces, dumbing it down for a certain target audience and basically destroying what could really have been a rich, original new IP series.

I have stated fact, not opinion. I have looked at every possible aspect of this game and compared to the first game it just doesn't live up to the "shining review" every single game site gave it.

I'm clearly not a troll, as I have stated several true and completely valid reasons for my hatred of this title.
I'm also disgusted on Bioware's behalf that they released the game brand new with all the glitches and game breaking bugs it has in it.
Unless alot changes, I shan't be buying III.

-edit- Also, I should probably state I went into this game expecting to love it. I was obsessed with Mass Effect when it first came out (i own it on both pc and 360)
I paid $120 for the collector's edition because I was so psyched about this game.
I tried as hard as I could to like it, but to my dismay found it had been turned into what was basically just another generic third person shooter.

Damn, Ninja'd!

well I believe what he says is a good general idea of it. it is something you form from something that will always be countered by someone's other opinion. in other words, your opinion is not right, but justified.

Videogames are pretty much the only good thing I have going for me in my life. I work full-time in a job I hate for a man I can't stand, to help my parents keep the roof over our head.
I'm supposed to take over sound at his hotel but I have this awful feeling I'll get screwed over, so I'm just biding my time until my world falls apart yet again...
