This is something I've always wondered about. In the Tekken games whenever you pick a character you have to press 'square' to choose their "main outfit". If you select the character with 'X' your character will have a different outfit. Except for some characters (like Hwoarang) who have the main outfit on 'X'. It's so annoying having to remember which button to press to get the outfit you want...

Does anyone know why this is? Why they didn't make you select the main outfit with 'X' like any other game?

I guess it's like early MGS games circle replaced X and X replaced triangle, so I often ended up at the "press start" bit.

How do you know X isn't the main outfit and square is the secondary?

It's because it maps the arcade buttons to the PlayStation controller (default) as.

x/O=Kicks
[ ]/Triangle=punches

Punches select the Player 1 costumes.

I just assume that since the outfit you get when you press square is the same outfit as in the picture.

I have no idea. But while I initially thought it was cool to play as both a panda and a giant murderous brown bear on number 4, I didn't really care much for the outfits.
