My question is, how do I set up my Xbox 360 so I can access my computer's music library? You know when you go into Music and you have some options? Options like, hard drive, CD, USB, and computer? How do I access the computer option? It use to work for me all the time but then one day it just stopped working. Does my Xbox 360 have to be connected to the computer by ethernet cable or can it be connected by wireless?

Some of you might tell me about the Windows Media Center option but that already works for me, what I want is to access videos from the main dashboard because my cartoons and anime videos don't work on Windows Media Center. Can anyone help me?

Go into your Windows Media Player, make sure your firewall is open to your Xbox, and allow the Xbox to access your media, and make sure what you wanna watch is in your Windows Media Player Library. And make sure your Xbox can find the PC outside of WMC.

Edit: To allow your Xbox, you have to go under the Library tab and select Media Sharing... and it should be there if its on the same network and you aren't blocking it with a firewall.

But you see the thing is, the videos I want to watch can't be played by the Windows Media Center for some reason, I don't understand something about the wrong video format or something but when I play it from the dashboard it works just fine!

So long as they are connected to the same router, it should be fine. Go to the Xbox Network Settings and Search for PC OUTSIDE of Windows Media Center. If it pops up youll be able to see it in Windows Media Player. It should be on your machine no matter what if you aren't on Windows 2000. If not check your firewall and turn it off for a bit to see if you can access it at all.

I just turned my firewall off, I'm gonna go check now.

Alright. If the Xbox finds it, go to your Windows Media Player, not Center, and open up the Library drop down menu.

It said PC was not listed, some of the suggestions were to make sure my computer was on the same network as my xbox, I don't exactly know what that means.

Do your Xbox and PC go to the internet through one router? Or does your Xbox go through a different one?

What's a router again? Well my Xbox detects the internet connection by the Wireless device with thew two antenna and my computer is connected to the modem which sends a wireless signal throughout my house. It says my computer is currently connected to "Network 7"

A router, basically, splits an internet connection so it can connect more than one computer or other internet device. as for a modem... I don't know how to connect it through those. however, go into Windows Media Player if you have it still installed.

What's a... Oh, God. This might take a bit of explaining...

Well, you could go to your "My Videos" folder and right click it and share it with everything. That's what I've done, and it works perfectly.

As for the videos in Windows Media Center being the wrong format, it probably wouldn't play on the regular video player, either.
That's the thing though, on the regular video player (from the dashboard) it works just fine but when I play them in WMC it says wrong video format or something

Go to the Library tab. underneath should be a small arrow looking like this V. Click it and go to Media Sharing.

Haha thats how Ive always run my media to my Xbox. Just make sure you keep what you want to watch in your library. otherwise you get pissed and reinstall WMP 5 times in one night... or was that just me?

If it plays in the regular dashboard just fine, then please tell me the problem with using the quickest, easiest way to get to your shows.

Unless you really want to wait for Windows Media Center to connect, then load all your videos, then load everything else. Maybe you like the build-up of anticipation?
Well until now I couldn't watch anything from the dashboard because my PC wasn't being listed but it's fixed now, also some of my "pictures" can't be viewed on the dashboard but all of them can be on WMC
