My internet has been up and down for the past 2 months. Running at full 80% of the time, down 10% of the time and just plain dodgy and slow the rest of of the time (cutting from 150mb/s down to anywhere between 3 and 50).

My question is has anyone else been experiencing such problems? If so whereabouts are you from, I'm from London for example.

I can't get a straight answer out of anyone from customer service. I'm just wondering if this is a wide spread problem I haven't heard about, or if this is a specific one.

People have been very helpful here, especially with network issues. I think the best thing to do in order to start troubleshooting is establishing your current situation, like:

.

Is there an alternative service you can consider? This seems to be a recurring problem [http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/virgin-media-users-hit-by-suffering-major-broadband-outage] with Virgin Media

Otherwise...
Have you tried your internet via both wired Ethernet and wireless?

Is it just one device or all devices that cannot connect?

How familiar are you with wireless networking setup?

Are you still using the default password for both your modem/router and for your network password?

Have you recently purchased or started using any NEW wireless devices in the house?[footnote]I once had my wireless drop and never put it together that it was interference from my Turtle Beach PX5 headphones. All of a sudden they would just kill my wireless, both PC and console. And it was a recent development, it wasn't always like this.[/footnote]

Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

Does Virgin Media cover both TV and internet? If so, do both services go down or just one?

Have you consulted any of your neighbors?

I had similar issues with Virgin Media in Cardiff, last year. 30mb/s package.

It would be great about 90% of the time, a bit slow the rest, but with fairly frequent freezes requiring hard reset. Ended up getting the Virgin engineers out two or three times to deal with it.
On the other hand, I also had it in Swansea and it was flawless, even with 8 students skyping and torrenting and gaming and streaming and all of the things.

Intermittent drops just don't seem to be something Virgin are great at dealing with tbh.

Have moved to a non-Virgin area now, have EE instead, and it's surprisingly good. Only about a 25mb/s package, but it never drops below 20.
