For the greater good and all, loss of 5 people yes but what if my whim to be catered to is the rebuilding of 3rd world countries?

The power that this gives means ofcourse I would, I would feel mild guilt yes but the good that could be done with that power outdoes that by a lot.

Depends how its done, if its random, id leave it alone, but if it worked like a death note or i could just target clones, id have to think about it.

Would I? In a heartbeat. In the time it takes you to read this post more than 5 people will have died. I will never meet them, so why should I care? Besides, even if you are hung up on killing people, you could just use your newfound power and fame to save even more lives. It's a win-win. The only people who should have any sort of problem pressing the button would be deontologists.

I wouldn't press it if it was for me and only me, I'm not that selfish. Getting handed everything you want makes life pointless, life is about working for everything, it sucks and its hard work, but you gotta deal with it. Just suck it up when it gets so hard your psyche crashes for awhile, being depressed brings nothing but depression to your other family members or friends.

I would however press it if it fixed the problems in less fortunate countries, I have a roof over my head, food, lots of video games and a computer with internet, my life is fine as it is. But people are dying of disease in Africa, still, after all this time, I would press it to fix problems like that, 5 people are a small price to pay to save the lives of those who don't have what I already do. Who knows, I may be killing people who deserve it, like murderers or child molesters.

A very easy question to answer believing in your own moral character when it's hypothetical, but a far harder one if you were actually faced with it.
I would instantly press the button. And I'd probably forget fairly quickly that people died for my choice because I'd be having far too much fun.
And I'm far too cynical to believe that anybody faced with that choice rather than a hypothetical one would not push the button.

I'd do it easily. I'll make up for it by advancing technology, which will save many more lives than 5.

It's not so much the guilt of killing five people, but the sheer laziness of having a button grant you perfection.

It's like buying a perfectly built birdhouse. It's not worth shit, because I bought it. Even if the birdhouse I make is a thousand times shittier, it feels so much more right.

...I know this is just me being an asshole, but: that's the same line of thinking that makes me value sobriety so much.

EDIT: In fact, not even if it would grant me the tools or funds necessary to make the whole world a better place. If I decide I want to be a revolutionary of some sort and try and bring aid to the less fortunate, I'm doing it through my own means, not the magic button, even if there were no consequences. It's just... not right to be granted that gift on a whim.

Now, I would love to say that I wouldn't. I would love to say that I'm compassionate enough to care for these people I will never meet. But I'm not. My life, taken care of, instantly? Money, fame, a big house, extravagant food, but no consquences to stuffing my gob? Sign me up, daddy-o! I would feel guilty, sure, but guilt doesn't cut it. I'm just being honest.
isn't that what Advertisers, the Music Industry, the Movie Industry, the US American Dream actually defends ?

The only question that remains now, how best to automate said button.
Or maybe some kind of remote system, so at least I could use it from a distance, cause it's gonna be a drag sitting beside a button all day, or else walk for it everytime I get a whim.

PS On second though, I wouldn't have to walk to it everytime. The second time around or so, it'll spawn a luxurious litter, with a dozen or so female companions to carry me and said button every where I want.

PPS If I push the button can I chance it into a remote ?

No. From a non-dual perspective those 5 others ARE me, so I'd just be killing myself 5 times over.
Explain, please, because the only way this could make sense to me is if you were reffering to a creepypasta. A very good creepypasta. I think I'll link it.

this reminds me of a discussion i had once. My solution, take apart the button and figure out how it works. barring that, no i would not push the button.

If you take it apart, you find nothing but a dead bunny and a note saying, "nice try."
