So this may belong in the Politics and Religion section, but it's largely unrelated to either, so I figured I'd fire away here. This may be a little out of context for most of you, but I needed to vent to someone about it and the anonymity of the internet means I can spew bile without much fear.

Today I'm extremely pissed at a coworker and my boss, mostly because said coworker went behind my back and had my boss remove the extra pay I was receiving for managing the coworker. Additionally, my coworker managed to get a slice of the residual income I make on one of my recent trainees/new hires. There are several things wrong with this picture 1) My coworker was not supposed to know that I was getting some extra income because I have to manage him and take his calls, 2) My boss should have alerted me about the changes to my pay 3) My coworker is already getting paid a higher per sale commission because he's supposed to help train people, so getting a slice of my residual pie is completely greedy and unnecessary of him.

Basically, I just wanted to see if anyone knows a little bit about the legality of what went down (unfortunately there's nothing in writing cause my boss is lazy about paperwork). Note that I'm in the US, Washington state specifically.

I suggest you talk things out before you result in a legal fight. Just call your boss, and discuss it with him.

What kind of industry are you working in? Is this real estate? Vehicle broker/sales?

Pretty much this, talk it out with your boss. Is your boss doing or has your boss done something else that could result in legal actions?

Have a sit down with your boss and find out the truth and if there is any other shady tactics he or she is pulling. If it's something severe then take legal action.

Wait, how does this guy know what your salary is, or you know what his is? Generally speaking, those are confidential. If your boss is sharing that information it's definitely unethical.

I work as an independent contractor in sales for Comcast. We get paid commission and I've been doing this for just over a year now, and things before weren't much of an issue, mostly because I wasn't doing the intensive management stuff that I'm doing now. The only reason I knew what my coworker, Chris, was making is because the paychecks go through me before getting passed out (as I am his supervisor). My boss is basically the owner of the contractor company and after talking with him about it he essentially just shrugged and said, "meh, work harder, sell more" to me. It's less about the amount of money and more about the principle of the thing, really.
