I finished the Vanilla game, no mods or DLCs, in about 60-70hrs I think. That's with all quests completed, most of the map explored, etc. Recently bought Point Lookout, but thanks to Windows LIVE being a piece of shit I lost my progress about one third through, roughly three hours in. The DLCs are sorta sucky compared to the Oblivion ones, I feel. But that's just me.

As it is, the main storyline in Fallout 3 can be completed in roughly 2-3 hours, probably less if you know what you're doing.
...lol wut?

Oblivion's DLC had useless horse armor, a few extravagent houses that require furnishing and are out in the boondocks, a (worthless in my eyes) artifact that is also way out in the boondocks, an uninteresting quest that just seems to strip me out either my shrine blessings and/or infamy, and then the awesome Shivering Isles.

Fallout 3's DLC extended the main story, added two "one-shot" dungeons with fantastic loot, and two extra locations that, while not as imaginative as the Shivering Isles, still expanded the setting, added extra loot, and had interesting quests. I consider The Pitt, in particular, to have a much better main quest than the core game (much like Shivering Isles was to Oblivion)!

yer the main quest is quite short but if you do most of the side quests and dlc about 60 hours of gameplay there maybe more not to mention once you have completed it with broken steel dlc you can keep playing

I played the story line only, and not one side quest. I only walked when I absolutely had to, used fast travel when available. I think it took me 15 to 20 hours? It was pretty easy though.
Oh, and I'm not saying it's bad, 'cause it's really awesome :D

Without looting, avoiding all battles and passing all speech challenges, I could probably get from vault 101 to activating Project Purity in about 15 hours. But alas, I am a pack rat in games and I like to keep everything I find just in case, which requires several trips back to my safe house, even with Fawkes there to carry a bunch.

Broken Steel was hell because everytime I'd go into the mobile crawler, I'd get tons of crap to take back. Then when it was time to get back to the mission, I'd run in to another 6 enclave soldiers hanging around the base to loot.

Not sure how long it took me to complete the story by I've invested about 70 hours in the game over the past year. Pretty much done every thing there is to do at this point.

if you follow a strict storyline about 10 hours.....but ad another 20 to that because of all the qliches.
yeah I have had about 5 game freez errors and 2 or 3 Fallout 3 has stoped responding errors. And once all megaton went hostile for no reason what so ever. so i had to take a earlier save and lost about half an hour.

How long did it take you to finish the core game and the dlc.
I have just bought the goty edition and have played the core game for about 25 hours and it seems like I have made no progress what so ever on the main story.
First time I didn't know what I was doing and finished it (before I had Broken Steel). Second time, did what I thought was everything (all DLC, bobble heads, etc), and it took ~70 hours. Playing through it again now and there have been places in D.C. that I'm seeing for the first time, and still other stuff I'm going for that I didn't get in the first two times through (like the MIRV). I've played for about 16 hours just around D.C. and Anchorage. Visited Ten Penny's and mindfield once to do quests, but besides that, I haven't really ventured out of the SW section of the game.

I accidentally stumbled into the final mission while exploring and taking side quests so the radio station and rivet city weren't all that important since i skipped them.

Still haven't finshied it. I have a ton of gear and a my level is maxed out, so I am pretty much death incarnate, but I still haven't finished the game.

Had something like 60 hours or so my first play through. I'd usually do a side quest or two then take one more step in the main story.

Well yes thats the problem, Fallout 3 goty is my first rpg ever and I don't know what I'm doing.
oooo... you picked a wrong game for your first RPG, its too wide spread that you might get lost (if you are not already)

but, exploring is fun! so, play it and look around, try to remember what the people said about the main quest and follow your quest log when you have no idea of what to do next (the main quest haves always obvious descriptions)

good luck man

Depends. I blew up megaton right away and forgot to get any info about my dad. I walked straight to Rivet City after doing a mission at Tenpenny Tower. My friend told me that by doing this I had cut off about a third of the main quest. I actually also bought this game a little while ago. I think I've put about 40+ hours into it and I still have 2 DLC packages left. Also, the only side quests I've done are the Tenpenny quests. I probably still have another 40 hours to go. Then I'm gonna play through again as evil. Then I'll play through as good. I did neutral this time. I had to work pretty hard to get my karma back up after destroying Megaton lol.

I have 400+ hours logged and hardly play FO3 anymore, and never finished the main storyline.

My game is now on about 350. And that not counting unsaved games, other character, and just fooling around(killing megaton and rivet city). So i guess around 400-450 hours. And i still play it occasionally. But the main quest + Dlc's was about 100 hours orso.

Occasionally I go back to Fallout 3, play it for three days straight, and discover a new place I haven't been to before. No, I don't know how much time I've spent in the Capital Wasteland and beyond so far, but it's probably been too much. I've recently discovered mods, am now trying a variety of them to see if and how they enhance the gameplay.
