Hi! I have a small problem. I've been trying to learn guitar for a while now. However, my guitar teacher just left for Alberta (Canada) which is a very long way from where I am.

Since it's the summer vacation and I have a lot of time on my hands, I've been trying to do new things. One of them is learning to play acoustic guitar.

So far, I've learned the intros of "Eye of the Tiger" from Survivor, "Seven Nation Army" from the White Stripes and Rock n Roll (Don't remember who made it). I tried to learn the intro of Master of Puppets from Metallica and Down on the corner from CCR. Once I master things a bit, I'll move on to Bob Dylan.

Well... I've been trying to learn new things, but I'm wondering is there other "easy" songs that I could learn. I'm turning to you guys. At least, the guys who can play guitar or who are trying like me. You can give any suggestions as long you know it's for beginners.

Note* I have a preference for folk and rock songs.

If It Means A Lot To You, by A Day To Remember. It's nice and simple, and if you can sing, great for singing to the girl of your dreams :)

EDIT: Or guy, I'm not prejudiced.

Smoke on the Water appears to be one of the more popular starting songs.

I think Red Hot Chili Peppers have some stuff that is easy to learn if you enjoy their stuff.

Angie by The Rolling Stones, Soldier of Fortune by Deep Purple (for Angie I suggest capo on 1st and play the chord shapes as written eg Am is still Am shape taking the capo to be the nut. for Soldier of Fortune I'd capo on 3rd and play in the same key ie same sounding chords, different shapes eg Gm becomes an Em shape taking the capo to be the nut)

I play acoustic guitar for quite a while now, and i know a lot nice and easy songs for you to play.

All of these Songs a very easy to learn, but sound great. And if you want to try fingerpicking, i recommend

Listen to the song to get the timing right. After a bit of practice, this song is incredibly fun to play.

"Knockin on heavens door" is about as easy as songs get, plus it introduces you to some of the most used chords ever. G, D, C and A. Once you've mastered switching between these chord shapes smoothly, you'll be able to play lots of stuff.

Also try Green Day's "Time of your life", Dolly Parton's "Jolene", Nirvana's "Polly" and "Smells like teen spirit". And the acoustic version of Radiohead's "Creep". Nickleback's "How you remind me" is also pretty simple.

Just take it slow and really practise those chord changes, they are the key to playing guitar good!

If the "Rock and Roll" you're thinking about is the "Rock and Roll" I'm thinking about, it's by Led Zeppelin.

In my opinion, anything by Flight of the Conchords. The songs are usually really easy to learn and are also awesome.

You'd be amazed at how long you can play the main riff from "Kashmir" before it starts to get boring. It simply doesn't.
