Hey guys, I hardly ever ask for help from yall and I want to make sure I hooked up my new HDD right. The only question I have is, I didn't have enough cables so I took out the DVD drive ones and pluged them into the new drive. The motherboard has about six places that you can plug that cable into...all different colors. Can I just leave it where it was plugged in? Will that affect transfer speed?

If it is SATA (A very small, rectangular connector no bigger than 1/2 inch), it automatically sets the drive, so there is no need.

If it is IDE (2 rows of pins, connector roughly 2 inches wide), You need to plug the HDD cable into the slot marked "Primary". It's usually silk-screened onto the board next to the connector. (probably blue, too)

Thank you so much! It is SATA. It took so long to format I started to wonder :)
