I was browsing some Reddit today and the user Anon159023 brought up a link to this video in a reply section.

It brought up some very accurate points about lack of original content in sites such as Reddit, 9gag, and Memebase. I would explain more, but the video speaks for itself.

My thoughts on this is the video lacks original content itself and sounds biased, while he recycles jokes himself. I will admit it brought up very good and accurate points about how humor dies in r/adviceanimals, Reddit became a place where dishonest users become charity cases, and where circle-jerking(r/gaming and r/atheism) becomes the norm.

Anyway, if you're a Redditor, check it out and unsubscribe to r/adviceanimals(if you're subscribed). If you're not a Redditor, this video will probably fuel your hatred for those kind of sites anyways.

So, discuss!

that was really interesting...

so...I guess what he's saying is its stupid how memes and just people taking sutff..mashing it together, which sort of discourages actual original content?

Reddit is one of the most cancerous sites I have ever seen, but the smaller subreddits and r/science are actually quite good at discussing things originally, and r/circlejerk is hilarious. The larger subreddits, especially default ones, are complete hiveminds though, and have probably run out of things to discuss. There's a theory that how bad this is depends on what you've set out to discuss (i.e., r/atheism will inevitably be crap because it sets out to discuss only one viewpoint and is highly popular, whereas r/religion would have more of a chance).

On another note someone needs to show this to the folks over in gaming discussion, because I think we currently have about 10 ME3 threads on the front page.

Some sub-reddits are bad, some are very good. R/Gaming by far is worse then R/Atheism, just because the user base, as a whole is terrible. But, quite honestly. I've had better experiences on Reddit then I have had on many forums, including this one.

Its funny how Richard Dawkins coined the word, in 1977... and now its only used in this context. It is quite amusing how he goes on about it, as in we are carriers of a parasite and has a serious undertone of swapping parasite for religion.

So a 10 minute video for saying: "Memes are not original and their humorous quality gets old fast" .. ? Also, is anyone really gonna pay for a game called "Meme defense" ? I wouldn't pirate that shit if you gave me money (well if you actually gave me money I totally would though)
