I guess it's really, how long is too long for a thread to be revived?
Two years or so seems more'n enough.

Nah, I have a better idea. Lock repeat threads. Oh the joy of having only one Mass Effect hate thread.
But... but... we must have a different thread for each slight differentiation of our hatred! It is known!

I, on the other hand, plan to Necro this thread in a year. -Smile-

But, I like Necro threads, they can be pretty cool to read, I think you're crazy Mr. just leave them be.
As for colouring them differently, well that sounds like a good idea but the threads are way more entertaining when the new posters don't realize that, so I really hope they don't do that.

I have accidentally necro'd a thread because it came up in the "Popular forum posts" window for some reason. I got heavily flamed, which meant it spent a long time in that window, and more people flamed the flamers.

It was unintentionally hilarious.

I think there's a lot of necro threads going around right now because as TopazFusion mentioned, most the users who start them are fairly new and March Mayhem is bringing in bundles of new users. This should hopefully die down next month when MM ends.

I've recently had an old thread Necro on me....

I mean how did they even FIND that thing? though its become relevant now what with ME3's ending and all..somewhat
It seen some people actually do use the forum search bar. Now if only some other people do that first before accidently make the same thread that someone else made ages ago.

Back to the topic, agreed. It is something I have been wondering about whenever I see a necro thread. I mean while it is against the rule to necro the thread but shouldn't they had added a thread locked features anyway? I mean this locked feature will apply to any inactive thread topic that had stay inactive over a certain amount of time?
But again I don't know a thing about progamming.

I don't get you escapist
You'll say people that make threads that have already been made before shouldn't do so
Yet then if they try to comment on those old threads they shouldn't do that either as it is necro'ing the thread?
Make up your minds, sure it's annoying when people necro the thread but couldn't it just be they wanted more insight into the matter and rather chose to comment on an old thread rather than creating a new and being barraged with angry comments for doing so?

Nobody likes to deal with necro'd threads. If a thread is less than a month old, a necro is okay, but when someone digs up a thread that is two years old it becomes annoying.
Don't forget to complain about everyone who FAILS TO USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION! Yep, I speak of those lazy retards who just post new threads without first consulting (and replying to) old threads, filling the forum with dozens of identical threads...

Understand?

Like I said earlier, it is fine if you use the search function to grab a recent thread that discusses the subject you want to weigh in on. But dragging something from 2010 back into the forefront so you can drop off a single comment without sticking around for discussion is ridiculous.

It doesn't bother me too much.

Besides, that would mean that 'The Artist in Thee', 'The Scary Thread' and 'Pimp Your Gun' threads would be locked and they're too good to go away. They're huge and because they're not really discussion based they don't stop being relavent. Some of those have been around since I joined, if not longer. It would be a shame if people couldn't post in them anymore.

I was unaware that this was a big issue around here. Then again I don't really delve that deeply into the forums, usually just skimming the 'Recent Posts' list.

But if we stop necroing threads, the Scary Thread will die! We can't have that!

But I LIKE necro'd threads! It's like a screenshot of the past!

I'd like for them to remain unlocked, as a well-timed necro can bring new perspectives to a current issue/be absolutely hilarious. They're not commonplace enough to be truly annoying.
Not only that, but it would kill the Scary Thread!

I actually responded to this thread back in the day with the same comment too. Lmao. Oh the irony.
