wouldnt it be cool if their was a game where you played as a shapeshifter. none of this prototype shit. it should be a freeroam environment where anything or anyones "life force" can be absorbed by touching it/them. you are then given missions which you can approach in anyway you want, you could change into a squirel and infiltrate a base, you could change into a rhino and charge in or even tranform into a tree when the enemy comes looking for you.
larger things would attract more attention from authority

that would be an amazing concept but the makers would have to limit the scope of things to change into because there would be too many possibilities to handle and program into the game

You've pretty much described Prototype with a stealth element and animals...

Also, I didn't think Prototype was shit, for a 'screw around and do what you like' game it holds up well.
It's only really annoying when you have to fight Greene which I've read walkthroughs for and all of them said 'You have to get lucky to beat her'.

But beyond that it's a good game in my eyes.

But yeah, I suppose a true shape-shifting game would be awesome, shame no one will likely ever make it.

[As a point to be made: I rented the game and got to the greene section, I didn't have enough time to be playing the same part again and again when I only had two days left to play Arkham Asylum which I'd also rented at the time, I appreciate that had I more time to play I would have likely figured out the building tactic or found it online, I now know it's a boss fight that can be won outside of dumb luck, I simply said I found it annoying and that the internet thought it was made in a way as such that you could only win with luck, thank you. You can all stop quoting me telling me how to beat it now...]

just wiki'd dr muto. it looks fun but i recon the choice would be set and you would be free to use any transformation for any situation

I beat greene by throwing cars at her ... took fucking ages though! Good hour and a half.

I watched a video on youtube were the guy kept running up a really tall building and kept jumping off, with the blade out and doing that charged attack on it ... didn't take him that long to do it, 10 mins maybe.

That game sounds way too easy and really bizarre.

there are a few things this game needs
1) choice, the player cant be limited
2) environment, make the environment like a playground with hidden characters
3) fun, it needs to be like GTA fun where you can rampage etc
4) story, the character needs to know how this happened
5) weakness, each transformation needs a weakness so it isnt too easy

I'd rather not be able to transform into literally anything. As nice as the freedom might seem, it means that none of the transformations would be very well developed. Having 5 or 6 that develop as you use them would be able to add more depth, I think. That way, if you approach the game more from a stealth perspective, you're stealthy forms will develop more than your other ones. You'd need some good level design to make sure someone who specialises isn't screwed at any point.

And there should be some kind of transformation chaining mechanic in the combat, so you can let off some attacks with one form, instantly switch to another and keep going. And have the combat like Arkham Asylum, because that was fucking awesome.

i agree with the arkham combat system, i disagree with limited transformations, the whole point should be freedom. possible you have a list of all your changes in a menu and you can only equip 4 or 5 at once

I think freedom is great, but people will only end up using a few transformations that more suit their style of play, so why not have those archetpyes and refine and develop them according to how you want to play it? That way, if you want to do a stealth run through of the game, your more stealth oriented forms get really fucking good because you used them so much. It means that people are going to come out with much different experiences depending on how they like to play, and there's still a good sense of progression throughout the game.

Freedom is nice for the player, but a ***** for the developer. The more control a developer has over what the player can do, the less there is to go wrong, and they can create a tighter, more refined experience. Use the best of both worlds and things get amazing.

Close, it was a robot's computer chip, not a tick.

OT: This would be a very cool game idea, and I would really like to have it become a reality. Being able to transform into many different things to solve puzzle and defeat baddies would be a fresh take on free-roaming games as a whole.

I have been thinking of a game where the player has the ability to be a blob form that allows him to change his shape, look like certain people and multiply himself. Im still working on it.

There's nothing you need to be lucky about, it's actually quite simple.

Step 1: Get up to a high building.

Step 2: Put on your armor and jump off the building.

Step 3: Avoid as many of green's attacks as possible while falling, this is fairly easy.

Step 4: Land as close to green as possible, and use one of your devastator attacks. Then use another one, and another one, keep going as long as you have enough health for devastators.

Step 5: After you've run out of devastator health retreat back up to a tall building and wait for some hunters to follow you. Eat the hunters, regain health, and repeat steps 2-4.

Step 6: After beating the first section of green's boss fight the military will attack. Disguise yourself as military personnel, jump in a tank or helicopter, and shoot the crap out of her. Repeat until boss fight is won.

Beating green is simple, just long, tedious, and annoying.
See, why don't they detail this kind of stuff in the walkthroughs I found?
Literally they all said 'you've got to be lucky'...
But like I said, it's still a pretty good game, not the greatest, but still good.

People already said this, but I'll say it again.

Dr. Muto for Xbox.

I own it, and it's a pretty par game. You transform into a rat, a gorrilla, a human (duh), an awesome spider, a wicked fish, and a flying squirrel.

Further on, you collect items to basically "upgrade" each transformation, mostly by collecting DNA from various animals.
