A situation for you all...

You are at you place of work/study/wherever.

You see one person threatening another with physical violence.

You challenge them as to why.

The person threatening explains that the other person is Islamic and was praying.

They explain they believe them to be a terrorist because of this.

What would YOU do?

Did this actually happen? This is what we would call a hate crime. I would come to the defense of the non-aggressor.

Well, what I'd like to do is tell them that they're an ignorant fucking prick. But if I was at my place of work I'd probably say something like that only less... uh, direct. Or I might try to give a speech about accepting people from other cultures, the sort of thing you'd see in some really cheesy movie that was trying to be deep, but instead just ended up saying what it should have made clear without saying it.

Not really, because it doesn't fit the definition of "terrorist." The person indicting violence towards the other is clearly in the wrong, at least in the way you presented it. That individual is being unruly and inconsiderate and generally a jerk-ass. And I would say so. In fact, I would suggest that the bully quit before I open a harassment case with the supervisor, because he's indicting a hostile work environment.

I am a Christian, by the way, but I may or may not get flamed, either way.

Try to reason with the person threatening the Muslim person that being a Muslim and praying does not mean that they are a terrorist. Maybe bring up that "freedom of speech" and "freedom of religion" bits of the U.S. Constitution. If it comes down to fisticuffs, I would defend the Islamic person. Simple as that.

Depends - how much do you want to throw the book at this guy? Threats of physical violence are taken very seriously by most companies. If actual violence takes place, it would be a hate crime; as it is, you can threaten a writeup for harassment or just say, "Of course Bob isn't a terrorist, do you see a bomb anywhere? Neither do I."

This actually happened, and thats what i did. The person said that they (the person they were threatening) were islamic and i said so. the response was that they murder and kill and it was wrong. So i asked them what they were, and they said christian. So I said then care to explain to me why you are threatening a person who hasnt hurt someone, when your religion says thou shoult not kill and then they launch four bloody wars for a peice of land?
