Oh man, I'm looking at those arms and legs and that fuzziness, and all I can think about is how AMAZING the cgi live action design will probably be.
So I'm assuming this is a movie about a 10-year old who grows blue fur and a head that's 4 sizes too big, because that's what whatever that thing on the poster looks like.
Also, how is Sonic still lucrative? How? HOW? It's the most pathetic, sexually exploited semen stain of a mascot. This is bad. This is just bad. All these live action anime are bad too. Just fucking stop it! Want to make a Sonic movie? Go for it, but KEEP IT ANIMATED! There is LITERALLY NO REASON TO MAKE THINGS LIVE ACTION! Live action adaptations just suck. Only if they already are human can it be ok, but even then it rarely works.

With the exception of Sonic Boom, most Sonic games since atleast Colors has been genuinely good. The plots are still goofy, but the gameplay has reached an amazing balance of 2d and 3d gameplay.Casual Shinji said:

All joking aside though, I have some fondness for the Mario Brothers movie. Not because it's any good, which it isn't, but because of what an absolute oddity it is. You can tell that there was some greedy Hollywood suit rubbing his hand for having purchased the movie rights to what, even back then, was just about the most succesful video game franchise ever, something that was all but sure to print money on name recognition alone, and then realizing... he now had to make a movie off a game about a short, chubby man rescuing a princess from a fire breathing turtle by jumping on things. You can almost hear all those screenwriters throwing up their hands, saying "What the hell are we supposed to make of this?".
Sonic, on the other hand... well, at least there's somewhat more to work with. You could take Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 make make movies out of them without having to change them much. All the plot beats and the character interactions and the supporting cast of a Hollywood movie are there. Would it be any good? Probably not, but it'd make fans happy and be remembered as mostly inoffensive. They sorta lend themselves to it. The Sonic Adventures games are set in basically the real world, you have all those anthro characters living among humans with the implication that that's just how that world is with no need to provide any backstory, they have evil robots, and scripted action sequences and fights against giant monsters... just hand the first Sonic Adventure to someone like Michael Bay and you're gonna get a perfectly functional action blockbuster with better direction than it has any right to have.
All of that aside, does this come out after Detective Pikachu? Because the only way to make a Sonic movie interesting to me would be to have a hitherto unknown character, let's call him "Nick Furry" show up and tease the existence of Pokemon in that universe, laying the groundwork for the first official Sonichu movie.
...I didn't think anything worse than Monster Hunter The Movie would happen in this near future.

Anyway, I'd love for this to be good, but I'm not keeping my hopes up. I cannot for the life of me understand why this isn't animated. Yes, Detective Pikachu looks good, but Pokemon's always been a setting where humans have existed. Humans in STH though is a far more divisive topic.
