ok so ive been watching ghost in the shell as you may have guessed and i really didnt quite understand the 'standalone complex'

i had a look around the web and found other complexes such as an 'inferiority complex'

so to me a complex is a state (maybe a state of mind) as inferiority complex means you see yourself as inferior to everyone in some way, shape or form.

so basically what exactly is a 'complex' in this terminology.

and can someone explain a 'stand alone complex'

also out of curiosity, you know of any other 'complexes' ??

thanks :)

My brain hurts...

Actually you make a good point, but sadly I don't have a clue.

I should start watching that show again.

To summarize and probably oversimplify Janus's link...

A Stand Alone Complex is when unrelated people who have had no contact with each-other, start doing the same thing in response to an event or act by a non-person entity.

As an example;

Say I was watching the newest South Park episode (currently S13E7 "Fatbeard"), and after having watched it, I decided to to go off to Somalia and become a pirate. If this happened, I would simply be an idiot.

But if me and a group of friends were watching the show together, and we all decided together to go to Somalia and become pirates, we would be a GROUP of idiots. Or contrawise, if I watched it alone, and convinced my friends afterward to come with me, we would STILL be just a group of idiots.

BUT... If I watched Fatbeard, Janus Vesta watched it as well, So did MaxTheReaper, Armored Prayer, and a couple other people, and we had not seen each other or talked to each other about going to Somalia, but out of the blue we all went there independently because of having watched the episode, then THAT is a Standalone Complex. Also worth mention, we would still all probably be idiots.
thanks a lot. made it really simple :)

it is actually a simple idea, i guess its just made complex to sound cool lol
