Yeah, instinct. That initial action that you want to take before you even have a chance to do anything.

However, I recently wondered what instincts have people developed themselves?

For instance, when I see more people, and know that they have not noticed me, or wish to chat with me, initial instinct is to be as quiet, as sneaky, and avoid bringing any attention to myself. This rings true just about everywhere for myself. While some may say this isn't actually an instinctual reaction, but a initial reaction......But that is for the grammar Nazis to go to war over.

So, I ask again, what instincts have you developed for yourself? If you haven't managed to note any, what would you LIKE to have as an instinct?

So, you are a sneaky one huh?
I figured someone might post that knowing people to like or not. But maybe the thread will die from unpopularity before then. :{

Maybe the thread is a bit to much on the "weird" side.

How do you really defy an instinct anyways? Everyone can say they have an instinct for something but that's not really how it works. For instance, an instinct is something you can't control. Which also means that it might not be something good(you might instincteffly jump up whenever you see a spider, which then afterwards you might have knocked something over).

So what I'm trying to say is(Still really anoyingly hard to explain);

What counts as an instinct?
How can you prove you have it?
How do you pick up on instincts? (how do you "learn"/"develop" them)

Also I'm pretty sure I failed to make any point whatsoever :<

Well, chances are it will be just us conversing! :p

But anyway, I understand ya. I figure an instinct to be the initial thought that runs through your head upon entering a situation.

For example, Upon being challenged, most people quickly have a flight or fight response.

Like initially meeting someone. Some people initially have the urge to tell them off. It usually isn't the case, but that is the instinct that the person has developed for themselves.

I guess you can pick it up just by attitude.

I usually take notice of people around me, trying to fit them into a personality I know. It's not like I'm paranoid because it just started as a pastime and later became instinct, but at this stage I can't really help it.

Well like I tried to state above, is this really what you can call instinct? Isn't this what someone else would call "common desency" or "adaptability". Calling something an instinct is to vague. (not bashing on your "instinct" just stating my opinion :<)

You stated above that an instinct is somehing you have no control over, and I really can't control this now. It's not really an adaptation, because this hasn't really done anything to benefit me, and not really a decency because I'm automatically giving personalities to people I have never met, which is not really a common decency. I think it fits as an instinct, but this is just my opinion as well.

And like I said, it is a certain trait that you pick up and that you consistently use for similar circumstances.

Like I said earlier in my OP, perhaps Instinct isn't the correct term, but it is the one I decided to use.

Well, through training (martial arts, military, etc), I've developed the instinct to go to "fight" mode instead of "flight" mode when there's a loud noise or quick sudden movement towards me. A friend was hiding behind a door and jumped at me like he was going to attack me (as a joke). I immediately started swinging my fists and was able to stop myself with my fist inches from his face. He never did that again.

I can't think of any others right now.
