A Technical Question...

I know that this forum is not the best place for a technical problem with a console but I really could not be bothered to create a new account on another forum and then be bullied for being the new guy before I ever got an answer, which would most likely be wrong because most people on technical forums don't actually know anything too technical and the ones that do have a habit of ignoring sentences in your question to make the most obvious answer seem right just to make you look stupid even....I'm getting carried away.

Right, Ever since I got my Xbox 360 back from the repair centre for the I've lost count how many times time, the wireless adapter has simply not been detected by it. it will not illuminate at all not red or green, this includes every usb port on the console. the consoles usb circuit is not out because the wireless charger still works fine.

So here's the part where you start to think "aha. well his adapter is quite obviously buggered!" which I'd happily go along with if not for the fact that the adapter will illuminate when plugged into a usb socket on a PC!.

All in all this presents quite the conundrum, so help please?

This may be a stupid question, but you don't have a ethernet cable plugged into the 360 at the same time, do you? The adapter won't work if you do.

Sounds like something is broken with hole in the back of the xbox (Immature giggle). Try using every thing you can plug it into the two front USB ports. It is USB right? I don't use an adaptor so I'm not sure about your problem.

Ok, so it doesn't light up at all when plugged in. Have you tried seeing if the system recognizes it anyway? Like, plug it in and going into the wi-fi setup?

well in the network searching bit it will search for a few seconds then just go "network adapter not connected"

If you can plug it into someone else's 360. If it works in that then your unit is at fault
Also try plugging in something like a memory stick and see if that works.
If the charger works then that just means that the power circuits ok, does not mean the USB
device as a whole is fine.

he said it works in a pc but not if it was picked up as a wireless usb device, tho putting it another 360 would help a bit too

it does seem like the usb on the returned console is borked, even if the wireless charger can work, that doesn't mean other stuff will work as the power pins are different from the data pins. tho it could also not be getting the right amount of power it needs as well

tho from what i remember the wireless adapters are crap and didn't always work and were very finicky. this goes for most usb wireless adapters tho, they can be handy little gadgets but they are mostly crap

best theory so far. but surely if it was to do with the power pins the red light would come on the adapter?
ergh, I'll contact xbox support some when this week see if I can send both the console and the adapter off and have them tested. looks like I will never have to pay for live again with all these little cards.
