My girlfriend's birthday is rapidly approaching, and i think that i have come up with the perfect present.

I am going to take the baby blue xbox 360 controller i retired after unlocking all of the gamerpoints from Treyarch?s masterpiece, Call of Duty: World at War, and have it sanded down/cut into a ring, in such a way that the A button sticks out like a little emerald.

She knows how much my 1500/1500 gs from WaW means to me, and how difficult it was to attain. To beat the Heart of the Reich level on veteran difficulty, the controller had to become a part of me. So to make a ring out of it would be akin to cutting off my hand and making a ring out of that.

It is as pure an expression of love as i can think up right now.

She and i met at a GAME store (where she works as a manager) and have spent many evenings at my place playing split screen multiplayer on my xbox, so it's a gift that has meaning, i feel.

I know that no one else can really know whether she'll like it or not... but i'm curious. Does anyone else think that this is a good idea?

If it makes any difference, i have already bought her something a little more... normal, too.

Very much on the geeky side, but it sounds pretty nice. Unsure of how she'll take it though, considering I don't know her

Instead, I know the best gift to give her.
Seriously, though, that's a pretty good gift.

I definately applaud your originality for sure. I approve of this as long as a picture is supplied to show how it worked out!

People are saying it sounds geeky, but it's really not. It's no different than a man getting his MVP trophy melted down into jewelry. It's something that's become a part of him and he's giving it up for her.

Just don't propose with it.

Its geeky but I would do it soo...But get her a ring and give her that, then give her that also. To show how loyal you are.

Actually, doing that with an MVP trophy would be... um, jock-y? Maybe? Anyway, in comparison, using a 360 controller is definitely geeky.

If giving up a part of yourself that is geeky makes it a geeky present, then it is geeky. But the fact that he would destroy something he loves so much for her, does that make it geeky, no matter what it was?

Wow, i wasn't expecting the feedback to be so positive. I posted about my idea on a non-gaming forum i sometimes visit, and was pretty much trolled into oblivion. It left me with doubts that it was as cool an idea as i originally thought... so i'm glad that you guys think it's a good idea.

Thanks.

And i'll be sure to post a picture when it is finished.

What kind of non-gaming forum is it?

As long as she's a gamer too, I imagine this would be perfect. Congratulations on thinking of it.

Yes.

Not that it being geeky is a bad thing, I mean in their case it would probably be the opposite.

A UK current affairs/politics forum. I'm considered a "regular" there, and it has an off-topic forum, so i thought i'd get some feedback. I shouldn't have bothered.
