First of all, why hasn't there been any Lost discussion sooner? This is a site by and for nerds, and "Lost" is totally a nerdy show that just happens to have mainstream success. I have been dying to have some Escapist discussion about it, so I decided to make my own thread. There are a lot of ways you could go with a "Lost" discussion, so feel free to add your own questions/comments. However, to get the ball rolling, I'll start with a randomly-chosen question.

How do you want to see "Lost" end? Do you want all the loose ends tied up, or are you OK with a bit of lingering mystery?

Myself, I'm firmly in the second camp, but I don't want it to go quite as kooky/mysterious as BSG went. It's easier to say what I don't want, then what I want, I guess because most of all I want to be pleasantly surprised. So, what I don't want is for it to be all about Jacob vs. Fake Locke, and how one is good and one is evil. One of the things I love about Lost is the moral ambiguity, so as long as the show is true to that, I should be happy.

**Please no spoilers, or use spoiler tags, I guess. But discussion of anything that's already aired is fair game.

I clicked on the link precautiously as with any Lost thing I am at Spoiler Defcon 1. Ya it will be shit if they reveal everything. They must leave myteries and I would actually love it if they never revealed what the story is with Jacob. I want it to end not leaving us with loads more questions but to still feel like a season cliffhanger finale (but not actually a cliffhanger if you understand me). It's hard to explain really... I'm sure I'll return to this when it's over.

I can't wait for the finale, but now I'll have to find another show to fill that empty void, and there's not many shows like LOST.

Well I'm hoping, if not having everything tied up, to at least try and have everything make some sense. Of course, that's a pretty tall order for lost.

I want to see an epic punch up between Jack and (F)Locke during which (F)Locke smoke monsters up to which Jack combines himself (unsure how but hey its LOST) with the other good candidates to for some kind of Megazord/Optimus Prime type affair. And continue to duke it out. All the while everyone who is still alive from either timeline are just war-ring with each other all around the island.
And Martin Keamy will be there generally being awesome and cooking good eggs.

Of course a sensible ending would be good too.

I agree with you. Watching this show devolve into good vs. evil is really disheartening. What kept me watching Lost was that it didn't take the easy way out on several story arcs. It expected us to pay attention and use our brains and imagination and in return gave us, I thought, some good character development and quite a few really great story arcs while logically advancing the main story's mythology.

At first I liked that the writers/producers gave themselves a deadline for telling their story yet now, as with so many good shows, they're in a rush to wrap up all lose the ends before the end of the season and the story is suffering.

I don't need an answer to all the questions the series has asked. Just seeing dotted connecting lines is enough for me. We've spent too much time with these people proving we're able and willing to figure some things out for ourselves and now to have them tell us the whole thing has just been the old good vs. evil struggle is really, in my opinion, selling us short.

I'm hoping for some moral ambiguity with jacob to seep in soon, such as the whole Ben Linus vs Whitmore, where you didn't know who was the bad guy, good guy, or a mix of both. It was good watchin'! They'll probably pull something out though, it really wouldn't be lost if it was so clear cut...

well i saw about a series before i missed a couple episodes to get back to it could think nothing more then WTF. so after not giving a shit about it for ages, flicking through channels caught about a minute of an episode from one of the newer seasons to see a hole buch of guys wanting to irradiate someother guy.. WTF i missed a few episodes and it goes from "plane crashes people stranded on island, there is a dinosaur." to "Lets put numbers into a computer so the world doesnt end" WTF IMO this show is fucked.

You make good points, and express some of my own fears, however I do have faith in Lindelof/Cuse, because I've read some interviews where they seem to convey that they don't intend to give us easy answers, or have it come down to good vs. evil.

I like how they keep coming back to the theme of whether they "live together or die alone"--constant fragmentation and re-aligning. Obviously, Fake Locke has done a lot of bad things, but I'm still not convinced he's totally wrong, or that Jacob is totally good.

I hear you. I recall fondly that golden period where I had new episodes of "Lost" and "Battlestar Galactica" to look forward to! After this, I can't think of any dramas I'm interested in. Well, actually there are some HBO/Showtime ones I'd like to watch, but don't subscribe to those channels.

Exactly, which is why I'm actually encouraged by the return of Widmore--he sorta personifies the moral ambiguity of "LOst". LIke Fake Locke said on last night's episode: Widmore is only interested in power. Or is he? He may have had a change of heart, since Penny and Desmond are married, or he may still be playing his power games. We have no idea.

You're right there, that is a well done theme, especially the way some characters move in and out of the 2 groups or go off on their own. Sawyer's a good example of this as is Jin.

I too fondly remember how much fun it was to discover the numbers popping up in unexpected places, or when we first learned there were other stations. When it first became clear just how big the puzzle actually was, that one or two pieces wouldn't come close to giving a clear picture - that was great story-telling.

You've given me hope that they'll do right by us and give a great ending to a great story. I don't want to be so cynical and jaded, really I don't. But I've let the tv hurt me too many times ....

And yeah - a battle between Jack and Locke would be fantastic. They've verbally sparred long enough and so far Locke has won. I'm not pro or con either Locke or Jack, they are perfect antagonists. Jack seems to be ready to take Locke on now, stop trying to make everything all nice and just have at it.

One thing that has bothered me is the weakening of Ben. Is it the presence of Widmore causing it? Can it really be the loss of Jacob? And if so, what does that say cuz Jacob is supposedly good and Ben is/was bad but he's afraid of the smoke monster and ... I just don't know what's going on there. And that's ok.

Any thoughts on last night's episode and Jack's decision? He seemed quite beaten down but I don't think I believe him. He's fluctuated between logic and myth often in this series but I always thought logic would win him, as long as drugs and alcohol weren't in the picture. Sseeing his childhood home reflected in the lighthouse really seems to have thrown him (not that I blame him for that - that'd be pretty damn creepy to see). And what about the end of last week's episode when they played Gene Wilder singing that song from Willy Wonka?
