[HEADING=1]TIEM Magazine Interview:

Rocket Dog (aka. IdealistCommi)
[/HEADING]

Hello, I'm Timotei with TIEM Magazine. Your source for user interviews and other Escapist-related material.

To some newer members he is known as Rocket Dog, but to the 'old guard' he is known as IdealistCommi. Last week I had the opportunity to interview a user who was at one point one of the most recognizable users on the forums, known for his rather interesting personality and sense of humor.

Back during my first interview with NeonBob, Rocket Dog made a promise to compete with Lord_Ascendant for the silliest interview. Sadly though, Rocket Dog didn't want to follow through on said promise.

For some of you who may say this interview wasn't so good, keep in mind that Rocket Dog is a very hard interview for reasons I wish not to disclose.

What brought you to the Escapist in the first place?
Rocket Dog said:
Part Unskippable, part Zero Puncuation. Just like the majority of people here.
You were once known widely throughout the forums as IdealistCommi, what motivated you to change your name?
Rocket Dog said:
Well, honestly, nothing much. I just thought it was time for a name change.
Was it difficult transitioning?
Rocket Dog said:
No, not really. Finding a new avatar was easy. I decided on my current one simply by choosing one of the many images I have on my hard-drive. The only hard thing about all of it was getting some people to adjust to it. Some were surprised, others just accepted it and moved on. All that needed to know of the name change are now aware of it.
What motivated you to create your own Let's Play?
Rocket Dog said:
It really spawn from a combination of absolutely not a single-fucking-thing to do, wanting to try my own Nuzlocke run, to practice my writing skills and wanting to actually do my own Let's Play (as I love Let's Plays). And it turned out quite well for my first Let's Play
Do you plan to do another?
Rocket Dog said:
I do plan on doing a second Let's Play in the future. However, I do not know what game it will be on, or when I will make it. I will try to make something and get it out by January, after I've gotten ajusted to the new school year and all. But the only prmoise I can make is that I will make a second
You have 205 Friends in you profile, are there any which stand out to you?
Rocket Dog said:
From them all, I'd say Fniff, Hazy, Neonbob, Fat Man Spoon, BrotherhoodOfSteel, and lewism247. Neon, Hazy and Fniff because I have exchanged alot of PMs both of them, so that makes them stand out. The other 3 because I have played alot of Left 4 Dead 2 with them. I've also played with Demented Teddy and TheNumber1Zero. Though I don't have a "favorite" user in any way.
You've been with the Escapist for over a year now. What changes have you noticed among the forums other from the Publisher's Club?
Rocket Dog said:
I've seen more people come into the forum, along with the creation of 2 new boards (religion/job). I've also seen alot of good members banned. Finally, during that year several new mods were added (not sure how many. Don't count or care). Other than that I don't think that many other "big" things happened.
Do you think the instatement of several new moderators will help make a positive change in the forums?
Rocket Dog said:
Overall, yes. I do feel we have enough moderators for now.
Regarding forum moderators, what are your feelings on the resignation of long-esteemed moderator Ultrajoe?
Rocket Dog said:
Actually, this is the first time I have haerd of this. But, anyways; it is surprising. I personally think that Ultrajoe was a great moderator, and I wouldn't be surprised if alot of thoers thought the same. I actually don't have much else to say about this.
Do you have anything to say to our new moderators?
Rocket Dog said:
No, not really
You are the member of 94 User Groups, care to elaborate on your reasons for joining so many?
Rocket Dog said:
I joined them all either because I was interested in them, or because they matched one of my interests. Even then, I am only active in maybe 5 of them, while the majority of those groups are dead.
Do you feel optimistic about the future of the Escpaist?
Rocket Dog said:
Hmm... that is a tough question. I think that the future may be a mixed bag. There is a good chance that the site will get bigger and better, with more video/article series. Of them I think we will get a few bad apples, but mostly good stuff. Community wise, I am not sure where it will go. Obviously more people will join, but there is no way to judge how they will act. Of course there will be good people, and bad people. It just depends on how many of each we get. I honestly don't like the majority of the community. Too much elitism, iidiocracy, ang ego run wild on the forums. Alot of posters also seem to have their head stuck up their ass. I feel that the number of idiots greatly outnumber the number of people will intellegence. But, that is just me. And only time will tell how the community goes from here
Do you have any parting words for our readers?
Rocket Dog said:
Sorry, but no
Thank you for participating in this TIEM Magazine interview.

I was a little surprised to see he had changed his name at first, definitely came into his own with the older one.

Liked the interview as well, keep up the good work.

Sadly he seemed almost lethargic during the interview. It didn't help that I'd sometimes take in upwards of 30 minutes to ask another question.

Just goes to show that "giving interview" might seem simple and fun but in reality it's an underrated skill that not everybody has. It's never easy when your subject just won't open up for whatever reason. Good try Timotei, better luck with your next subject.

So was I. I managed to find out my going through my friends list, seeing him and wondering "who the hell is that?".
After checking a few of his recent posts(and some of his many older posts) I put two and two together.

Guys, he is a communist. He wants other people to do the work for him.

:D
I love how well your picture supports your statement. :)

OT: That probably explains why I haven't seen him in ages. I figured he was banned or something.

Same, I was wondering who this "Rocket Dog" guy was and when I befriended him.

When do we get PDF's?
You know, I never actually thought of that. I always assumed this was good enough, but I can always make something more flashy.

Now I have something to work toward.

So this time it's Commi, eh?
Not the most interesting Interview, but it could've been worse I suppose.

Well keep up the good work, and maybe the next one Interviewed will have already had their Coffee.

This seems like fun, I wish I could do one of these...

Ahem, anyway, I always wondered what happened to Commi. I thought he got banned or something.

When I saw the title of the thread, I was like "Rocket Dog? Uhh, who's this guy?"

Then I read it was IdealistCommi. The first thought that struck me was "So that's where he's been", and my second, immediate thought after that was "Why the bloody 'ell would someone change their name AND avatar?".

I've never really gotten why people would crush their online identity like that, but eh, that's just me.

[sub][sub]Why, Commi? WHHHYYYY?![/sub][/sub]

Also, I know I'm not nearly famous enough (that is, to say, not at all *cries into his pillow*), but I'd love to do one. I love when someone asks me on Formspring, and I love not giving a straight-forward answer, mixing in equal parts nonsense and real, genuine answer, and often try to weave some kind of fictional backstory concerning the answer around it.

But eh, for now, I'll just enjoy the interviews of others. Oh, and uhh, there should be more interviews, coming out more often. I mean, they don't really seem that hard to make. So far the interviews have been, what, monthly?

I'm glad I have installed a vision.

I await my interview where I shall give insight to this very day!
Which you will no doubt retell as an epic battle between pirates.

Yarr...

Having done so myself, I can say it can be really hard thing to do. It's kind of painful at times. You want to tell people that it's you, but sometimes it isn't a good idea to do so.

And yes, there are more interviews coming out. The wait on this one was substantially less then the others, being only a few weeks from the last (would have been sooner without some delays).

And no, despite your views, interviewing is actually quite difficult. It's extremely difficult to make each one individual and to have questions vary from person to person. What makes that more difficult is that I am not granted a wealth of information about my interviewee, just what they tell me.
