[HEADING=1]Susan Schulz interviews: The_root_of_all_evil[/HEADING]
Hello, I'm Susan Schulz with
Code:
TIEM
Magazine just recently returning from my coverage of the conflict on the island of Skira. Upon my return I began on my queue for interviews, starting with The_root_of_all_evil.

Root and I exchanged questions and answers over the course of a half hour in an instant messenger. After much thought I decided this will be how I conduct my interviews from now on.

What brought you to the Escapist in the first place?
The_root_of_all_evil said:
I'm one of those dragged in here by Zero Punctuation. One of my friends showed me the vids and I just sorta stayed.
Were you aware of the Forums at first, or did you find that out later?
The_root_of_all_evil said:
How were you bestowed with the posting title of Time Lord?
The_root_of_all_evil said:
Susan (Arendt) gave me it on stepping down as a News Hound
On the 13th of this month you will have been at the Escapist for two years. What are your feelings on this?
The_root_of_all_evil said:
It's been an experience. Not all great, but most of it has been.
You've been around long enough to witness video series such as Video Game theater and Kung Fu Grip. Do you miss any of them?
The_root_of_all_evil said:
Heh. VGT and KFG were...not my sort of thing, and not anyone else's by most standards. Drawn by Pain started well, but didn't seem to know where it was going. Same with Unforgotten Realms. I really liked De-Rez, but it was too slow in being released. Hmmm. I absolutely love Doomsday Arcade and I think the 2 Michaels will be going onto very big things in the future.
What are your opinions on the Escapist's dramatic expansion in the last few years?
The_root_of_all_evil said:
It was always going to happen. Things can't stay the same forever. My only worry is that the influx of people coming in tend to only look at one aspect of the magazine (Be it ZP or one of the consoles) and they don't take time to look at all the rest of the magazine. Also the rise of the "Cult of Personality" has been a little annoying but again, it's gonna happen.
You have 372 friends on your list. Are there any that stick out above the rest?
The_root_of_all_evil said:
Jeez...uh...tbh, I'd have a hard time even picking out ten above the others. I'll say that all those that are important to me know by now.
Having been around the forums for so long, you've most certainly met and befriended many posters who have been banned or no longer post. Are there any of them that you miss?
The_root_of_all_evil said:
I mentioned this earlier on the idea of the "Cult of Personality". There were some really good people who changed as their popularity took off. It's difficult for anyone to get over 5000 posts without coming to the forum's attention as a whole, and I'd say I'm sad for most of those that have disappeared over the two years.

Some, I'd only see on the end of a kebab
Do you have a message for any of today's notable posters?
The_root_of_all_evil said:
"Remember your first post and remember some people's last posts."
You are friends with several of the Escapist Staff. Can you tell us what some of them are like when not being silly or serious?
The_root_of_all_evil said:
See, I'm friends with them purely because I don't tell people what they're really like. The one thing I will say is that all of them work real hard on getting the Escapist out, and a positive comment goes a long way to making their day.
As of October of this year you will be 40 years of age, do you feel sometimes overwhelmed or outnumbered by the massive influx of newer, younger members?
The_root_of_all_evil said:
Cheers for bringing that up.... Heh, no, I really don't think about my age that much. I've groups of friends half my age and double my age. I think there's a little too much importance put on age at the moment and less on who you actually are.
Are there any words of wisdom you would like to give to the Escapist as a whole?

It's a play on the wordd Time. It's a two sided joke. The first side is that it is blatantly ripping of TIME magazine and the second part is the channer nature of putting I and E next to each other when separated by a constanant , like.. well "liek"

It realy wouldn't be The_root_of_all_evil if there wasn't at least one Doctor Who reference in there, would it? I mean, that is why he asked for the title 'Time Lord'.

On topic, I find it a shame that I haven't really had much of a chance to talk with Root, even though I know of him very well. I only added him as a friend after he offered to polish any work I was contemplating submitting to the Magazine as an article (I never wrote it in the end and missed the proposal deadline completely, coincidentally) and we haven't really talked since, despite us both being part of the Holy Alliance of the Golden Star (shortened to HAGS -- I actually really didn't expect it to come out like that when I first came up with the sarcastic group reference). He has, though, from what I've seen of his posts, proven to be a very nice evil and intelligent man, with the ability to add the right level of sarcasm to a few of his posts where necessary to make it work. You can tell he's a writer to an extent.

This also makes it a shame that I'm not going to Escapism UK this year, seeing as he's going along with a few other people I'd be really interested in meeting (Cpt_Oblivious, Sky, Trivun...).

Regardless, that was a good read and I can't wait to see more interviews of fellow escapees, Suiseiseki IRL.

Also, if you still have the users I suggested on that list, take Cheeze_Pavilion off of it. Firstly, he's changed his name to Hope Chest; secondly, he's been banned.

Thank you for the heads up. I'll remove him from the list immediately.

Heh, glad you started this up again. And as for Root, I don't know him that well, but he is indeed an awesome guy.

EDIT: I hope I'm still on the queue.

Also, I could help you with these, if you ever wanted.

I would request one, but I'm aware that, as you mentioned, the queue is full. That, and I'm probably not as "close" (in internet terms) to you as I'd like to think from a few interactions.

Well, it would seem that interviewing members was a good idea, because I was entertained. Well done Ms. Whatever-you-want-to-be-called (When i call people Ms. or Mr. it's a good thing)
Do you review anyone, or do they have to be recognizable by the majority of the community?

Nice read for a tired Þórir.
Now this is something that will make me happy that it's the last thing that I read before I went to bed.

I bow to you Susan Schulz for giving me something good to read. And I also bow to your all around awesomeness.

A very well done interview.
Now I kind of want one, though I'd probably need a higher post count first.

Even I wish I was going to Escapism UK, not because it's better than Sydney (I mean come on, we're totally the best ever) but simply because there are so many people over there I'd love to hang out with. I'd even bring my Bowler and steal Doki's sonic screwdriver just to annoy people by shining it in their eyes every so often.

Nice interview work by the way. I look forward to more of these coming out.

I love the Doctor Who quote at the end. That episode scared the shit out of me.

And I have a question: is your username a reference to the Dream Theater song of the same name?
