In b4 someone storms in and calls all Bronies fat neckbeards and sick losers who need help or to some extent.

Anyway, it was mainly on here on Memebase I saw a load of people talking about it. I think season one had just finished when I started watching it because I downloaded all the episodes.
I looked into it and saw Tara Strong (my favourite voice actress) was in it and Lauren Faust who did a lot of my favourite kids shows when I was younger. I loved MLP as a kid so I thought I'd give it a go. I thought it was pretty damn funny.
I don't care if somethings a kids show, if it makes me laugh I'll watch it. Adventure Time being a good example.

I wouldn't really call myself a Brony, but my friends, and awesome internet parodies, got me to watch it, and I kind of liked it. I got a bit into the second season, and then I started watching Breaking Bad, then Dexter, so I will probably finish it someday, but not any time soon.

I used to ignore it but I saw it was getting bigger and bigger and told myself I would take the time to watch it "someday". That day happend when I heard Gabe Newell was a brony.

I grabbed a bucket and got ready to puke out my manliness but I just ended up puking rainbows.

Back in 2010 I had stumbled upon images in a forum I frequented and I decided to find out where it came from. I asked and was told it was FIM, so I went to youtube and looked it up, full of open mindedness and started to watch, right away I could see all the cheesiness. I persisted and as I continued I felt my heart warm just a bit. After the first 4 episodes I could not stop watching, it was a slippery slope, I knew this, however I just grabbed a sled and slid down happily giggling all the way. I love this show and it has helped me become a more open person than I was before, because if anything should happen or someone should make fun of me for liking it to the point of feeling upset, I always have a loving and caring fandom to help lift my spirits back up.

Some guy made me and my brother watch it. The only thing I thought was funny was me and my brother making consent references to Robot chicken. BLAM, ***** PUDDIN!

In the end cheap animation, basic characters and by the book story's made me think it would be ok if I was 5, and a girl. I think it's fine for it's target age group but for the life of me I will never understand why people out side that group like it. But I will also never understand religion, and how people can have a personal connection with god, and I am getting off topic. But yeah I don't understand it but whatever.

My roommate last year was and still is a massive brony. I basically watched the first season because he was constantly watching it in the room.

Honestly, it's the exact kind of humor I hate. Reminded me of shows like Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, which I hated as well.

Seriously don't see why people enjoy it.

OK, let me think for a second...

The first time I ever heard of MLP:FiM was february 26 2011. I was browsing around a wrestling forum when someone posted a link to the first episode and simply commented "Look at the statistics and see who watches it." Clicked the link and raised an eyebrow when I realized that it was My Little Pony. But when I realized that the people watching it the most were adult males my jaw freakin' dropped. Anyway, I didn't really watch the episode, it played in the background while I was doing other stuff and I turned it off a couple of minutes in.

But I noticed it on the internet more and more. The comic Fanboys mentioned it and there was a steady stream of pony threads here on the Escapist. I couldn't for the life of me understand it, but I was never really motivated to watch it. That is, until someone posted this clip in late march/early april in 2011:

I thought to myself 'OK, that was genuinely funny... Ah, to hell with it, I'll give it a shot.' I watched 8 episodes in a row. I was stunned, this was way better than it had any right to be. I was hooked, resistance was futile.

I refuse to even watch it by this point. Hell, even clips have been known to make me cringe, such is my grumpiness.

Other people watch it? Fine by me, but personally, I ain't for that sugar coated stuff.

You spelled "Derpy" wrong. Just sayin'.
Silly filly, that's not how you spell Pinkie Pie :D

Uh, on topic, basically a same-ish story:
-increasing number of pony-pics all over the forums
-then at some point i found out it's about this kids show
-then it slid more and more into the centre of attention
-then i thought "oh come on guys, really? my little pony? my cousin used to play with them LSD-trip coloured thingies when she was young!"
-then i reminded myself not to be biased, and even if so, at least give it a try (20 minutes isn't too long now, is it?)
-at that point season 1 was halfway through, and i watched all of it that same day

Welcome to the herd.

I noticed all the pony threads we had here last year, and decided to see what all the fuss was about (this was before I joined the escapist, back when I was just lurking here).
Before I knew it, I'd watched all of season 1.

If anyone else is genuinely interested in getting into the show, just follow this link . . .

http://tinyurl.com/Ponyship-Episode-List

Scroll down to page 2 of that document, and click the episode titles to get to the youtube videos of each episode.
It was similar with me. Granted I did knew about it when Lauren Fasut posted a preview image of the mane 6 in her Deviantart account before it aired. I didn't think much about it other the image was cute and leave it at that or so I thought.

Sometime later I notice the first few threads about it on the topic, who is your favorite pony. So I decided to watch the first episode to post my comment on it. I only watched 10 mintues and drop it (it was too cute for me) and voted for Applejack (if I had watched it longer, it would of been Fluttershy).

I did however decided to finish watching the two episodes a day or so later since I don't like to watch a show unfinished (full episode).

It was only when I was bored one night (no new games and no live TV in my room) that I may aswell watched more of it as I got nothing better to do to passed the time.

Sooner or later I accepted that I had become a Brony.

For a second, I read the title as "Equestrian Trip" and thought it would be about a game where you ride across the west on horseback, shooting wolves, pumas, and outlaws before they overtake and kill you and your horse, and make it to the next town where you can rearm and rest.

O.T.
It was the Fall of 2011. All was quiet and peaceful. A friend, unaccustomed to the internet, tells of a TV show called My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. He tells me, "No really, its pretty good, like the old animated Batman good." I trust him. I'm watching old episodes of Gundam Wing, on the side, MLP:FIM Season 1 Episode 1 is in the "most popular" section. In a moment of weakness and boredom, I click play, and my decent into conflict and madness begins.

You, my friend, are a wonderful person for remembering that show.

I'm still waiting for an opportunity to rip the sound-file of off a downloaded episode so I can have "One more thing" as my text-message sound. It will be amazing.

I decided to watch through the first two episodes. I could definitely see the appeal, and was happy to sit through the whole thing, but it just didn't grab me enough for me to want to watch any more.

At this stage, I'm simply indifferent to it.

It is no wonder the show is as popular as it is, and if you are a fan of anime there are obvious parallels to be drawn.

I think the main three reasons why the show is popular are...

1. It is a westernized version of the magic girl anime series such as Sailor Moon to a degree but also similarities with the Slice of Life animes such as K-On. Both very popular with Male teens when originally released, these shows with localized humor is essentially the basis for MLP:FiM.

2. The plots can be anything essentially as long as contains magical talk ponies, it can be extremely girly (e.g the sleepover episode) and do a parody of The Hobbit the next (Dragonshy), the outlines for what they can do with the show are so vague that is an episode for everyone essentially.

3. It feels like a nostalgic cartoon, when watching the show I feel like I am watching shows from my childhood. I think that this show is probably most like Sonic: SatAM mixed with Powerpuff Girls, with a slight bit of Animaniacs as well.

That being said the show is stupidly flawed and shows that just because you have elements from these shows does not mean it is actually as good as the fans say.

Jackie Chan Adventures was pretty much one of the highlights of my childhood. That show was something else. Anyway...

Ever since I came back from my holiday in September 2011 I started noticing these pony avatars popping up all around the place on BioWare's forums. Naturally I had no idea what the hell was going on, but then I saw on my activity feed that someone on my friends list was posting in an MLP thread, cue my very audible "...Huh?!" afterwards. I poked in the thread and after seeing some of the avatars and stuff there it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put two and two together.

After a bit of extensive reading of said thread I started to get increasingly curious, untill I eventually said "Fuck it", went on YouTube and started watching from the pilot, since to be honest I had nothing better to do at the time. While I didn't think the first two episodes were anything special, the following ones hooked me like the first time I got into Doctor Who. Haven't looked back since.

That thread is still very much active, and I post in it to this day. It's also one of very few bastions of sanity left on the BioWare Social Network, and contains some of the nicest people on the site.

I still dislike alot of the fanbase though.
Yeah, I will admit that some of the more zealous fans can be really obnoxious. They grind my gears too. Thankfully it's easy to tell who is like that and who isn't.

I had nothing to do over the summer (I'd dropped out of uni, had no job and was overcoming depression) so after seeing it all over the Internet I figured I'd see what the fuss was all about. Been watching it ever since.

I gave the first episode a try a while back. Didn't leave much of an impression. I was thinking of writing it off as the usual dull "welcome to the show" episode, but if the second episode doesn't draw me in, then I think I'm going to look elsewhere.
