Mirrors edge is calming, the music is soothing, the gentle rhythm from jumping and sliding under stuff

until the cops show up...

and start shooting at you...

Cod4 is one of those that (to me) can be either. Sometimes I completely stink and go 5-20 and get annoyed, at other times I'm the one with the 20-5 and its amazing.

It's almost impossible to lose. It's like an RPG mixed with a real-time strategy, and no, not like the crappy ones you see in banners and pop-up ads

I uphold the position that Saint's Row 2 is the best stress reliever ever, because you can ninja-kick old ladies.

I don't play games to relieve stress, but if I were going to, I imagine Heavenly Sword would be good at it. It's hard to have stress when faced with that level of grace.

Hitman: Blood Money always helps me relax, partly because I can play completely at my own pace, and pretty much do whatever I feel like doing.

Genji: Dawn of the Samurai (Genji has a really calm and soothing look.) Kamui has the ability to put me in sort of a trance state, which always calms me down. The attacks also look beautiful and feel really satisfying when they connect.

GTA IV is my great stress reliever. Stealing, shooting and blowing stuff up always makes me feel better.
Definitely. Utter destruction is great catharsis after a long day of work.

One of mine is definitely Bully(or Canis Canem Edit in Europe) beating up fake people is a good way to blow off steam, but even better for this is Dead Rising, killing thousands of zombies is a great way to relieve stress
I've never played Bully but Dead Rising is definitely something else.

Also I'd throw in Burnout Paradise. Games without much of a point, or at least with a point that you can totally ignore and go off on your own damn tangent are the best for this sort of thing.

Cool, someone still plays this game besides me. I especially like the level creation part. It's like art class or something when you are fiddling around with making your own levels. It's not hard to do yet you can do some pretty creative things, even timed or triggered events, dialog and custom-made storylines. When you are done, not only do you have your very own set of adventures you made yourself, but it also looks really cool when you go in and play your own levels in the game.

Star Wars TFU throwing around stormtroopers with the physics engine in that game is so awesome :)
Theres another one of my favorites that I've sadly forgotten to mention! The first few levels where the enemies are easy to kill just make it funny to throw them around in a air ballet of death. :d

Another vote for Dead Rising. Yes, Otis is a demanding c*nt but you don't need to play the main story and there is something incredibly relaxing about charring zombies faces with frying pans or firing up a lawnmower or performing the 'face crusher' move. Also that Death Worn game is pretty awsome

My stress-busting games:

Katamari Damacy (any of them)
Animal Crossing
Rez
Skate
Beatmania IIDX (turned up loud)

Pretty much all of those help me relax and put a big smile on my face. :)

I've recently used search and was shocked to not see a thread similar to this. Anyway on to the question-

We've all heard the claim of games that are true fun, makes you enjoy yourself, and gets rid of stress. Its why some games were created, but have you ever played a game that made you feel like it was actually making you have fun and get rid of stress? An example of what could or couldn't be, depending on who you are.

Your playing a online game, say, Halo3. You are moderately enjoying yourself when stupid things begin to happen, say there's crazy lag and you can barely shoot without dying. This just isn't fun.

So I ask you, have you played a game that made you just sit back and enjoy your day, without getting annoyed, or insanely bored?

Mine would probably be Mirror's Edge's demo for now, since not once was I tempted to turn off my system in agitation or boredom, and it made me 'want' to keep playing because of how fun it was!
Hm... I have spent countless hours on Metal Slug 3 with infinite credits, and I must say it's been tons of fun and anger venting.
Otherwise games like God of War of Star Wars:Force Unleashed are a great fix for one-man-army style slaughter. Byt I'll even more gladly stick with Streets of Rage 2 (best side-scroller beat'em up ever if you ask me, especially with the soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro).
That, with Painkiller Black Edition and Serious Sam Second Encounter, it just makes my day.

And GTA:SA, my character looks like Mr.T, and I go out on the streets, beating the fools (har har har), making offensive jokes at the same time (for more irony and offensive stereotypes) and it's just perfect.

It's a very relaxing game, but I just hop on for a couple of rounds of 2142 with VOIP on, and get some light banter going while we shoot stuff.
