A weird technical support question...

OK, so please, to save the embarassment, please don't ask into this unless it is necessary for the advice you're giving.

So chicken curry was for dinner tonight, My brother ate in my room and unbeknownst(if that's a word) to me, he left his bowl at the bottom of my bed.

Now, as I always do when my laptop is fully charged, I unplugged my charger at the place which links the mains to the adapter. The cable slips off of the end of my bed. This time it falls into the bowl half full with curry.

It was like this for maybe 30 minutes. I investigated when I heard a loud crackling. There were very bright sparks. I immediately removed the cable from the fluid and uplugged it from the mains before cleaning it. Probably stupidly risking an explosion, I plugged it back in to check if it still worked. The only difference seems to be that rather than the usual crackle it makes from connecting to the adapter, it makes a pop.

So: are there any long term effects and is there any procedure I should follow? Thanks in advance.

P.S. I finished the curry off for good measure. It seems to have had *puts sunglasses on* a certain SPARK to it. YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAH!

Err...I don't know if I'd trust that adapter but if it works...go right ahead and use it.

It doesn't crackle consistently. As I link up the 2 parts there would be a faint crackle, as happens with all electricals I use when connecting them up if the cable part is already connected to the mains.

gently clean the adapter with one of those cotton bud things. there might be curry inside it, if its anything like the one i have.

What this guy said, it sounds like there's a bit more curry-goo stuck in there that's getting toasty when you're plugging it in.

Use a cotton swab to clean it with a bit of rubbing alcohol and let it dry completely before plugging it in again.

Like I said earlier, it's not constant, just as I connect up the two parts there is a faint crackle. It happens to my PS2 if it isn't plugged in right.

Edit: the crackle doesn't last even half a second, and there is no crackle if the whole cable is connected up and THEN plugged in.

Dude, you just don't use faulty electrical equipment. That's how accidents happen. That crackling is the electronic current searching out for something to ground on. Whether it's the cord itself, a bedpost, the table it sits on, or you.... it's going to find it. Not to mention fire hazards like i said before. Just get a new cord man, it's cheaper then a new house and much easier to recover from then being electrocuted.

As long as you cleaned it well and let it dry thoroughly before attempting to use it again you should be fine. For an extra safe measure I'd take a volt meter and check to make sure the power coming out of it is what it should be. The power output is listed on the adapter.

Regardless of how much it crackles, if there's even a slight crackle you should still try and get a replacement, if only for the sake of having something that won't possibly fail when in use. I doubt your adapter will blow up or anything, but there's still a chance that it'll just stop working, especially with visible sparks. Use it if you want, but get a replacement ASAP just for the sake of getting something half decent, since I know that if I dropped my laptop charger in a bowl full of curry I'd personally be pretty adamant about getting a new one...
