A world without children

I just finished watching one of my favorite movies Children of Men.

The premise of the movie is that at some point in the early 21st century women started becoming infertile until the last baby was born in 2012. Since then the world has basically descended into anarchy and chaos.

It got me thinking about what would happen to society if Humans were no longer able to have children.
Reproduction is one if not the most basic function of an organism. What happens when that basic biological imperative is taken away?

What do you guys think would happen in a world where we couldn't have children?

People'd delude themselves into thinking there were a select few women who still could, and would kill anyone who stood in their way as they tried to find more women.

Well we'd die out. I'd have thought that to be fairly obvious. And since a good enough percentage of humanity would still be alive for the majority of my lifetime I doubt I'd give much of a shit.

I think it'd be pretty much the world that Children of Men depicted :p

On a more serious note, I think people would just try to live life as well as they could, and the only major difference would be that there would be a lot more private and public funding for finding a cure.

Oh, and stupid extremist groups would blame science, the government, Jews, solar flares, etc, and do stupid extremist things >_>

THE WORLD WILL FALL INTO A MASSIVE ORGY WHERE WE WILL ALL CONTRACT STDs/STIs.

But seriously--some people will be happy

others wont

we'd have to come up with ways to make new children because we strive to survive, some people will not like the idea of how they are making children (for what ever reason) and rebel and the world will fall into chaos because children are literally the future.

I have no idea what I'm talking about I had a dream like this some years ago.

I really like that movie, and I think it portrays it fairly accurately, but only if we were unable to find a way to clone people or create children through non-natural means. If this was the case the world would probably degenerate into panic and despair, although I would think that sooner or later people would get used to it. Society probably wouldn't be bad as the movie, but it would still be pretty awful.

While the depiction is dire, it is also realistic. People with less intelligent but who also who had power would present themselves rather rashly in a situation as dire as our species becoming sterile, and stability of governments thus would be threatened.
Religious extremism is also a likelihood, in order to point the blame (as if it mattered). Finding who should bear the guilt in a situation like that would be to pick up the pinecones cast from a rather intrusive tree stuck through your window in a windstorm.

Baby laughter is freaking creepy, not cute. Ugh.

I doubt it'll ever happen, but it'll probably end with cloning research.

(and here I was hoping this thread would be about population control measures..._

Anti-aging research would get a massive boost, and life would be much more valued. Society would actually work hard at trying to get along with each other and solving its problems, because humans just became a finite resource. So yeah, extended lifespans, global cooperation, and no screaming kids in public.

Why aren't we doing this?

No more teachers whining about how underpaid they are.
No more annoying kids crying in public places.
No more excessive censorship.
No more "musicians" like Bieber and Rebecca Black because they wouldn't have an audience stupid enough to like their shit.

I'd think society would be fine for 40-50 years, then things would start getting pretty bad.

Of course it's far more likely that we'd just start cloning our children.

Society would split, some places would go about business normal with more sex maybe, others would become worse then hell.

Probably the governments able to control and keep a lid on things would pump more funding into cloning and medicine. But the longer a reason let alone some form of child is not presented then the worse the situation becomes. Man power will become much much more valuable.

Well all kid school and high school would be demolish to be built by something else. Animation woud all be gear toward olderteen or young adult so it will be the rise of adult anmation. Also the world will be a less happy place since I read that having a child can bring joy and happiness to that man or woman.
