Bam, here be my 1000th post, just over a year after I joined the site.
I'd like to take this time to reflect upon how The Escapist and it's community has changed over the time I've been here.

We gained several new video series, some of which are great, some of which not so much (I'm looking at you Game Dogs). We lost Unforgotten Realms, which made me sad, but we gained Unskippable, which is quite amusing.

But most of all our community has just been getting better and better (minus some of them hit-and-run March Mayhem guys, but we'll ignore them), and in my opinion, the level of intelligence in discussion has been going up. I've even noticed a small, yet significant drop in repeat threads. Hooray!

How about the rest of you guys? What changes have you noticed in your time here?

I've noticed the passing of some popular members like NoMoreSanity and MaxTheReaper in my time.

*Reclines in easy chair;lights pipe*

The forums themselves have generally got more popular. Granted, the more users we got saw to that.
I guess nothing ever stays the same...

I've noticed that I started posting, and that the forum games section can be a fun little time waster.
Yeah...haven't been here long enough to notice anything, decided I wanted to post anyways.

I miss those guys, especially MaxTheReaper. When he was around I think it was impossible for a user to go a month without being quoted at least once by him.

Woo! 1,000 posts is a big mile-stone. However; you may be happy now, but then that 5,000 post mark seems so alluring... but so far away... Then you get drunk and somber.

I've noticed the reformatting of the website. That was great... I didn't like it at first, but sure enough, I grew to love it.

Then what kind of celebration is that?
I happen to a have a fountain of the finest whine in my back yard, so I'm always ready to celebrate.

Nice? Nice? How is a decline in our preparedness for the zombie apocalypse through intelligent discussion (of which the likes can be found nowhere else on the internet) be nice? This is a catastrophe waiting to happen! ...and you call it nice.

Now that my asanine outburst is over with, it's nice to see the display of optimism from you guys. I'd have to agree that I like the site more than when I joined, and thank the staff and other members alike for providing me with hours of entertainment.

...Though it would be nice if we engaged in more zombie preparedness activities...

EDIT: I forgot to mention the hours of free entertainment that I have on the site. The only cost to me has been my Pony Jam T-shirt, and that was well worth the low cost.

I've seen what seems like a wave of fear over the community because of the crushing fist of the mods with the banning of Max. And with this fear came pretty lame threads like whats your favorite sandwhich. The sites gotten pretty uninteresting because of it.

Reading your OP has made me realize that I've been here for a damn long time.

As for changes, I've noticed that going Gonzo isn't as big an achievement as it once was, seeing as how most of of our older members are well over 5'000 posts.

Well, I'm approaching 2 years and 2000 posts, and I must say it has changed a lot in that time.
I'll bet very few today here remember when The Escapist was raided by 4Chan, or The Darths and the reason behind the pink lightsaber. Not many remember when the Forum Games and RP section was first made, and the First Escapist Election.
This site led me to meet some of the smartest, wittiest, and all around best people I've ever had the honor of meeting and conversing with. They have taught me to be a competent enough writer, to embrace my inner gamer, and overall, to just plain have fun with everything.
I won't forget them, even as this site will soon forget me.

I've seen the creation of no less than five new subforums (User Reviews, Religion & Politics, Job Board, Forum Games & RP, Genre Wars), the introduction (and quick and deserved death) of Genre Wars, the introduction and departure of several very memorable forum personalities, and a definite change in the community, as the place has grown.

Wow, have I really been here for two and a half years?
