I, like a ton of people here, probably heard about it from Yahtzee's review. I have all 4 of the Painkiller games...

I have played the game Painkiller, it is a fantastic shooter. Painkiller is addicting because it is a hectic arcade style game where you run around killing demons. The game reminds me of the gameplay from the Serious Sam games, it has the same type of run and gun concept.

Woah, wall of endless text.

I'd say it's because it's a PC game. Hear me out before you lynch me! Fact is, sad or not, the majority of gamers don't use their PC for gaming much.
Except for maybe, I don't know... 100% of PC gamers. The PC gaming community is a hell of a lot bigger then you make it out to be.

It also had a sweet MP mode and actually was used in a few gaming tournaments back when the game was new.

It wasn't so much the fact that it was a PC exclusive (I doubt the company could have afforded the time money and effort required to get it to consoles) than the fact that it flew under the flag at its launch and failed to receive any hype in its day.

I'd heard about it, but don't know much about it. May I suggest clearing up your post a bit? Grammar and paragraphs will help put your point across in a more clear manner.
Really. I mean, I'd heard of the game, but a giant wall of text that's hard to read isn't going to help sell me on actually playing it any.

Though I'm tempted to try anything that shares a name with a Judas Priest song.

Yeah, I think most people were to busy studying proper English to play it... But alas, TL:DR (even with the updated text).

First off, I bet almost no one read that colossus of text.
Second, Why so much people don't even know? Isn't that "Why so many"?
Third, it was a pc exclusive which a lot of people didn't really buy so its understandable
and Forth, grammer and punctuation do matter on this website.

Its a 'Zero Punctuation' review
I think it's a 'negative punctuation' review. It has so little punctuation, it creates a void, drawing in grammar from the posts around it.

OT: Painkillers are fun! The game's alright too.

I'm not much of a fps game, but my man is. I know we don't own it, so maybe I'll keep a lookout at the stores for a copy, since most of you all seemed to enjoy it.

As the grammatical problem....Dude... I majored in English in university, and I make stupid mistakes all the time. But for the love of all mankind, please add simple stuff like periods at the end of sentences.

I bought Painkiller before I saw Yahtzee's review. It's a pretty fun game! Reminded me a lot of the original DOOM games. Only it's not as good, of course. Still, it's too bad I can't play it anymore now, it doesn't work on the Xbox 360... dammit Microsoft...

Fucking hell, you make longer sentences than Steven Heck (Point for anyone who gets that reference)

I heard about it a long time ago. Was watching a Let's Play of Dead Space and the guy doing the commentary said that the Ripper reminded him of the Painkiller.

Looked the game up, seemed fun, never bothered to try it.

I heard of painkiller, I bought it as soon as I heard about it when it came out, I played it for about a month or so, then doom3 was released and I forgot about PK. After I finished d3, I returned to Painkiller, and played it all the way through. its a great game, Huge levels, lots of different locations, Cathedrals, Train stations, industrial areas, that huge bridge. I loved all of it.

its truly an under appreciated classic game, and like yahtzee said "there is a gun that shoots shurkins and lightning, it couldn't be cooler if it had tits and was on fire"

I knew about it since I came out, but I'm not a huge shooter player and wasn't much interested as a result.

I don't think that it's that the game is literally unknown, but simply that it was overshadowed by being in competition with other, bigger titles when it was new, and while it hung out a surprising long time at a cut rate, being a cut rate game I don't think many people have been all that interested in it, since the shooter fans are always after the shiniest, most impressive one.

I can't comment on how accurate Yahtzee's review on it is since I haven't played it, however he did seem to like it, which is a good thing if your tastes generally tend to coincide with his (which mine don't as an RPG player, but I still respect a lot of his opinions).

Fuck that, let's start with sentences, shall we?

And I've heard of Painkiller, though I also heard it's shite.
It is and it isn't. It's a classic style FPS. Waves of enemies to blast through. Good simple fun. It really works for some, but it's not for everyone. Hence the reason why it was a sleeper hit for some.

I wouldn't say 'why doesn't anyone knw about Painkiller" there was an article here a few months back that shortly after the Zero Puncuation review of Painkiller and Yahtzee's positive review of it, sales nearly went up 800%.

So no one knows about it? No, a lot of people know about it, probably played it.. There's just nothing to talk about anymore.

EDIT: Straight from the article itself:
On the other hand, sales data from Amazon seems to reveal a distinct 7,400 percent jump in Painkiller sales shortly after it was given a positive review, if one-liners like "Painkiller is fucking awesome and can kick the ass of most big name mainstream titles and have them for breakfast afterwards" are considered merely "positive" and not "giddy school girl talking about her favorite boy band."
7, 400%?!?!? God damn!
