So, the day before my brother showed me this video from either IGN or some site like it where a guy went into deets about what could have been in the movie Michael Bay is working on. Including the changes.

Oh... so many changes.

Yesterday, I looked it up again to try and find it. Upon learning that the movie which was scheduled to come out in December of 2013 has now been pushed back to May 2014, said rejected script for the movie ended up leaking out onto the interwebs.

My questions:

Has anyone else seen it? Does anyone want to see it? (Or listen to it as there's at least one site that makes a video reading it off and commenting on it.) And shall we have a lovely but preferably hilarious discussion over whether the trashing of the script is a good thing or not?

P. S. I really, really think so. But that's just me.

It sounds like it was going to be awful. I am glad they tossed it. It's way too easy to screw up TMNT.

This interests me greatly. As you've probably noticed the Turtles made up a huge chunk of my early childhood (the bits of it that happened in front of a TV of course).

I could just rant for paragraphs about how awful this movie will be based on his previous abominations of film, but it's not worth my effort. Screw you Bay.

I highly doubt they'll ever get the same kind of treatment they got with the original film. It's a sad thought, but if they're going to make a bad or even sub-par film I'd prefer that they just leave it be.

Decided I'm not gonna edit 'cause I wanna be sure old posters see the new stuff...

Welp, today it's just been told that Paramount pictures sent out their Cease and Desist order so there doesn't appear to be available copies of the script. Too bad. Latino Reviews does appear to still have their video up where they read off the story so you can find that, I suppose.

Anyway, I'm gonna share the parts that I figure are most important that I saw and heard.

In the rejected script:

Casey Jones and April O'Neil are 18 year olds. And April is not a reporter but more of an intern.

Shredder is "General Schrader" and the Foot... is actually more of a special ops team dressed in black.

Casey Jones actually gives them their signature colors.

And... the turtles and the bad guys are all from Dimension X.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now Michael Bay has responded that this trashed script was written before he or any of his writing partners even signed up for the project. Despite the fact the script is dated January of this year and Mike had apparently already done so over a year before...
Make of that what you will...
...wow that's bad.
Mind you I still have no idea why they don't run with the early comic book script in the broad strokes at least.
I've never really been a big TMNT fan, and I've only seen the CGI movie from a few years ago, so I don't really know what to think..
Probably because it got weird fast. Granted, it is a story about teenage mutant ninja turtles, but I think the first movie worked well because it was just down-to-earth enough to make people believe the characters and their struggle.
Sure, hence broad strokes. They really could have used an editor.
How do you screw up such a simple formula so easily? Why add all these random changes for no discernible reason? I'm not a TMNT fan myself, but I can see why you could be offended if you were.
Well to be fair, in the comics April was actually a lab assistant, not a reporter. If I remember right, she put on the jumpsuit for a disguise once, but I'm pretty sure that was after the cartoon came out. The turtles also didn't have signature colors in the comics -- they all wore red (or at least they did on the covers and in colorized re-releases, since the comics themselves were in black and white.) The comics in general took a nose dive after they got the licensing deal for the cartoon. The first couple of arcs were tightly scripted action at its finest. It gradually got sillier and more kid friendly as the franchise took off.
I didn't know the Michael Bay movie had been canned, though. Can't say I have a problem with that; it sounded terrible. I wish the CGI one from 2007 had gotten the level of pre-release dissection that this one did. I might have actually gone to see it instead of writing it off as basically what this one was going to be.
Oh... a comic reader. Yeah, those were way before my time.
Also, the movie hasn't been canned. It's just been pushed back. Instead of coming out next year, it's supposed to be coming out the year after.
