Being the Cheerie Little Poppet I am, I have been researching Theme Parks a lot lately. While we all know places like Disneyland and Universal Studios have been successful for a long time, and still manage to turn a profit, several theme parks do not, and are eventually closed and demolished. Sometimes, however, it doesn't all dissappear. In my research I came across [a href=http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2009/01/abandoned-amusement-parks-in-asia.html] this jem[/a] that shows what happens when these things are left alone too long.

avoiding emo phrases like "The Tragic Beauty of Decay", I still find this stuff absolutely amazing (yet terrifying). I was wondering, Do YOU have any abandoned rides/buildings in your area? do you have any photos? what was it before it was abandoned? Is it possible that there's actually a viable tourist trade here?

I'm pretty sure that there's GOT TO be something around where I live, but I haven't heard anything. Also I haven't been here for too long, so...

Sure! who doesn't love spelunking? (sorry, I meant Urban Exploring... ugh... )

I've been in abandoned train stations, warehouses, etc. Cool stuff!

Well, not in my house...
However, I've found out about Prypiat when I was researching Chernobyl for a project.

I want to go there soooo badly... find something more abandoned than that.

Very cool, but kind of creepy too. Just like in Spirited Away, like the title said.

There aren't any cool abandoned structures in my area that I'm aware of :( There was a train station down by the river, but they recently renovated it and turned it into an apartment complex.

Man a game set in places like this would be awesome.
funny you say that. I've always thought of theme parks (disney in particular) as the starting points for Interactive Fiction. A game (or movie) in an abandoned theme park would definately send chills down the spine

Its not the best picture, and its nothing like being there, but thats the old Alice Springs drive-in theatre, now overrun by spinifex grass.

I also really like the look of disused/abondoned buildings, and its the reason that I'd love to go to Chenobyl one day.

No abandoned theme parks near me, but the Scooby gang sure seem to find a lot.

There are plentiful abandoned farms and houses on the backroads of Southeast Missouri...some are pretty creepy.

I've been in an abandoned Men In Black laser tag building. It's really creepy since the decals of glow in the dark aliens are still up, and some of the moving ones still work..

It does seem to be quite an obvious survival horror game setting. Creepy, easy places to make puzzles, imagine a hall of mirrors with the undead stalking you. Plus every bit of scenery is interesting, no abandoned town grey or black space horror, instead you could turn a brightly lit park into something that scares the heck out of you.
