I noticed that most sites dealing in old DOS games like Abandonia always get rid of all the cutscenes and music, is there anywhere I can actually get these games in full? cuz I'm tired of missing out on the full experience.

I've been having a massive retro craving but I can't enjoy any of the games if all the music and story is cut out.

You'll likely have a had time as those are what take up the most space, and bandwidth costs money.

Yeah I figured, thought I'd give it a shot though.

Depends on what you're looking for. Some can be found if you look long enough. you can also try torrenting it? or looking for an iso if its a disc based game.

You know, I wasn't aware of that. I thought all of these games had their copyright expired.

In any case, if you leave your old couch on the street and someone comes along and takes it, you can hardly call it stealing, can you?

For practical purposes, copyright NEVER expires (we're talking about REALLY long here)... its always gonna be MINE - even if i'm... umm, dead. But thats a different topic. What i was trying to say is: Law, morality and reason are three entirely different things - and more often than not, they also live seperate lifes. That something is law doesn't necessarily have anything to do with morals or reason. And that something is reasonable doesn't necessarily have anything to do with law or morals.

To give you an idea about "how long" we're talking here, let me give you an example from the world of trademarks (yes, i know, not the same as copyright, but with similiar lifecycles): Plasma Pong got C&D'd because Pong still is a registered trademark of... Atari (that the atari of today only shares the name with the old Atari, doesn't mean anything... at least not in the world of laws).

Yup technically these games are still considered copyright of their creators. So if you're after "abandonware" done your parrot and man your sloop!

Other less legally sketchy routes....
Look on ebay for the originals? potentially pricey but it works.

Try good old games? They have a nice selection of older games so they might have what you're looking for.

Look for a compilation of old titles? Some games like king quest have been re-released on compilation disks.

Check to see if the company still has them for sale? Some companies like 3D realms aka apogee back in the day still have their games on sale for download off their website.
