I have a feeling that in a few weeks or months, the cool and edgy people of the internet will start hating on Minecraft, probably because it's "slow and repetitive" or "the combat sucks". We've seen it so many other times, with MW2 - probably the most hyped game ever - where a few months after everyone played it they said it was terrible, and now it looks like the same thing's happening with Zero Punctuation. I believe Minecraft is next in the internet's cycle of hating things. So personally, I'm preparing myself for the flame wars.

I tried Minecraft, and I'm sorry, but I just do not see the appeal at all :/. I don't think it will catch on that much.

I tried Minecraft. It's horrible. First off, gathering wood with your bare hands? And the tree not falling over?

Yeah, I quit immediately. The programmer obviously has lack of skills in programming.

Tried Minecraft but my interwebs are awful and it lagged something chronic so I have decided to save it for when I get a new router.
So I'll probably be amazed by it when everyone else has stopped playing... behind the times as usual.

There will also be thousands of people talking about how Minecraft was better before the noobs ruined it, how it was better before Persson sold out, how update X made the game impossible to play and all that stuff anything with rising popularity gets.
Better get used to it.

Please, feel free to go develop a game on your own with realistic physics.

I look forward to playing it in 2089.
Way to go at failing to recognize sarcasm ;)

That's a lame comeback. Just because someone is obviously unable to create a game that's actually good doesn't mean I must make up for their lack of talent or skill.

Not to mention the game advocates punching sheep/pigs. What next Minecraft? Punching babies for milk?

I tried Minecraft and i bought it after a few hours ingame. So did a few of my friends.

We set up a private server and started building. We will soon have a small city, couple of castles, a few amazing caves and underwater tunnels and places. Even a huge pyramid is present.

Sure it takes time to build something incredible, but after a busy day it sometimes feels good to start a favorite music and go wild with imagination on what to build. Its not a great game for everyday use, but occasionaly its just what i need.

10? price is not small that is a fact, but after almost 50h or so ingame i would say it was worth it.

Minecraft is lovely. The creation aspects are as near to limitles as I've seen, and it's so calming to play.

Modern Warfare 2 always sucked, and I've always hated it.

What about Zero Punctuation? I still find him hilarious.

Those eternal 'his older stuff was better' posts are the stupidest on this entire forum.

I don't want to go further into it though, if there's one guy who doesn't need defending on a forum it's Yahtzee.

I disagree. For a video game, $15 (about what I paid) is next to nothing. I earn that in less than an hour. I've sunk more hours into Minecraft than I have into any other game in the past fortnight, and the others cost me around $80-100.

The difference between MW2 and Minecraft is that MW2 is awful and a cash milker, while Minecraft is a very successful indie title, and a quality one at that. I think it's comparable to Garry's Mod. Unlimited creativity, unlimited gameplay, you can do whatever you want.

Haven't heard about people hating on GMod yet...

I haven't played the game so I am not the one to judge but I believe that the majority is eventually going to get tired of it and move on to another game. That have happened a lot lately.

That is, unless they bring in something awesome like... pie!

I'm really hungry, okay?

Nah it was the classic version, browser based. Like I said, my internet speed is dire, the download was going to take about 10 hours. I may sort it out tomorrow... maybe...

OP is a sillyhead, okay? As many others have already said, Modern Warfare 2 was not well-received because it was insanely buggy and it has overpriced DLC and such. Minecraft is one ten euro payment and you have it forever, and there's no DRM, you can install it anywhere you want. Oh, and it's a lot of fun.

And I still think Yahtzee is funny.

Did they fix that DDOS problem yet?

OT: I think it'll still have pretty big fanbase, even after the initial hype burns down.

The non existent physics is one of the most charming things in the game, and it makes it possible to build both beautiful and awesome structures in the game, so please shut your mouth while I stare in awe at awesome things people have made in Minecraft because of the physics in the game.

The hype may die down, but it's a good game with a lot of potential. People may get bored of it, but there'll still be a core fanbase that will enjoy it.

I'd equate it to Second Life. It was hot shit for a while with loads of news articles written about it, and companies tried to get on board, but now it's sort of faded from people's minds despite a lot of people still having barrels of fun with it.

I think they fixed them, yes. Online Multiplayer works once again, so I think so.
