I tried a bit of Minecraft. It was pretty cool, kind of gives something like the feeling of playing with blocks when you were a kid. I, however, wasn't all that into playing with blocks. For me, it was all about action figures. Yeah! Goku would be a grizzled cowboy anti-hero, the Digimon would be a small industrial community in the middle of nowhere, and Godzilla would be the money-hungry oil tycoon exploiting them. If somebody could find a game that evokes that kind of feeling, please link me to it.
I... I... I see billions of dollars in this idea. Please dont' sue me when it starts getting sold online... : )
I will have none of that! I demand that the idea be developed as a freeware title, and you make a modest income on PayPal donations; not enough to quit your day job, but a nice bit of pocket change nonetheless. Then you use the publicity to create a successful handheld game which combines play-in-one-sitting simplicity with incredible amounts of depth. It will become the device's killer app, and you will be beloved by many. Also, I wanna be credited as creative director.

Apples to oranges.

If you'll excuse the tortured and extended metaphor: MW2 is that limited collectors edition action figure you spent your last penny on only to come home and learn that it's made out of chewed bubble gum and string and then that annoying neighbor kid uses it as a chew toy for his dog. Minecraft is a giant chest of assorted Legos that you got for free when your older brother went to college. (speaking as someone who actually owns a giant chest of assorted Legos, I kinda know what that's like)

People who expect fast paced combat with lack of repetition (which I have never seen in a game ever) should not be playing minecraft - plain and simple. I got it a few days ago and I find it slightly dreary after a few hours but playing it in segments is fine.

Also you really can't compare minecraft and MW2 - one is still in the alpha stage and the other is a full retail title (that still had more bugs than something in it's testing stage...)

And even the bugs in Minecraft can sometimes make it awesomer (Mountain cut in half :3)

Hey, if it's their opinion they have the right to express it. What they think doesn't matter to you so why should you care?

Paypal donations can't even afford new servers for some of the best sites and games on teh net, so F-that. But okay, I'll use it to get street cred.

and sure, you can have a line of text like that. not a big deal.

I tried Minecraft. It's horrible. First off, gathering wood with your bare hands? And the tree not falling over?

Yeah, I quit immediately. The programmer obviously has lack of skills in programming.
Jeez, this must have been on of the most successful trolling missions on the escapist yet.
OT: Well, considering it's in alpha, and people are loving it this much, I don't think it's going to lose popularity soon. Plus, it's only going to get more and more popular as time goes on.

I think it's comparable to Garry's Mod. Unlimited creativity, unlimited gameplay, you can do whatever you want.
That would apply to the creative version, survival is more about, y'know, surviving. And hopefully it's going to get more survival-centric as the updates go by as at times you get the feeling you paid for Creative 2.0.

You can destroy stone with pickaxes made of WOOD.

The sad thing is, this is blatant sarcasm, yet so many people were so easily maddened by it.

have you ever tried bringing physics into a 8-bit game?
and btw, do you really think they developed this 8-bit sandbox game because they weren't able to do any better? have you ever heard of nostalgia?

I played it during the 'free to play weekend' it had once. I was skeptical at first, but then after I learned how to make stuff and after making my first giant cave I was hooked. I'll purchase it, but it's not a good idea to have that game unless you want to fail all your classes.

The difference between MW2 and Minecraft is that MW2 is awful and a cash milker, while Minecraft is a very successful indie title, and a quality one at that. I think it's comparable to Garry's Mod. Unlimited creativity, unlimited gameplay, you can do whatever you want.

Haven't heard about people hating on GMod yet...
I hate Gmod.

Just putting it out there.

I love Minecraft though.
Ummm... okay, that's one person, anyone else? No? Good.
It helps my point. :p
Yeah, it's ok. I know it's weird.

I would hazard a guess than anyone else who's tried it, probably liked it. I just never got into it.

Dunno why.

Minecraft has so much potential because it has infinitely more options than MW2's gameplay of "I'm going to shoot this guy in the face with one of several different weapons."

Me, I get weird satisfaction out of Minecraft by channeling water to different places. Building canals and whatnot. Weird, but I enjoy it.
