I'v been playing starraft for a long time, and been enjoying the use map settings maps to no end, but there's just one problem.
Most of the maps are for the expansion pack (broodwars).
I have the pack, but refuse to use it as noone seems to speak english on the broodwars multiplayer.
My guess is that this is because of the koreans, i have nothing against them, I'm just not able to communicate with them, and that seems to be nessesary for any kind of organisation or teamwork, and people fluent in english are a requirement for the feeling of comradery i get playing starcraft.
you can try to organise into english only, but it takes a lot of effort, and drains the fun from the game.

So my question is, how will b.net 2.0 approach organising its players into zones, if at all?

PS, will sc2 have teamspeak?

I started imagining a Karate Kid/Starcraft 2 crossover movie. OP plays Tre, who just moved to Korea. He encounters a brood of Zerg who are about to rush him, when Jackie Chan (wearing a space marine outfit) saves him in the nick of time. A training montage happens, and OP eventually becomes...a firebat?

Haven't really fleshed out the details yet...

Ehh I wouldn't worry about that in regards to Starcraft 2 for a LONG time. Starcraft eventually fell out of popularity with the majority of the English-speaking world, but the Koreans have a religious-like devotion to it. If you weren't playing with them in 2008, you weren't playing with anybody.

I can't guarantee that it won't eventually happen with SC2 as well, but I can say that it will be largely popular in the States and elsewhere for at least 6-10 years. As of right now there are set regions for the game, meaning anybody in the US can only play other people within our continent (US, Mexico, Canada). But they plan to make it possible to play against/with the world in the future.

The game has its own in-game voice chat feature, yes. Of course you can use teamspeak or ventrilo if you prefer those.
but on sc 1 i was playing against english speaking people today, its brood with the problem, although that does raise the question of whether i will be forced back to legacy.
and about zone seperation, i have friends i play with in america, and im in australia.
Can't they seperate by chosen language?

don't worry you will be in your own region. as was stated above. if u press the tilde key u can use sc2's built in voip which actually works unlike most games released today

If you're good, you could potentially join a clan on ICCup
http://www.iccup.com/starcraft/

Will provide ready opponents and people who actually want to coordinate.

Well since you are form Australia, i feel for you. B.Net 2.0 is region-locked. Regions are EU, Asia, NA, South America, Russia. Since you are in Australia, they don't let you connect to NA servers but instead you will happily game on Asian servers. Enjoy.

There is also no chat function except friends chat or custom game lobby chat. Id advise on getting NA version, either by importing it from US or buying the cd-key somewhere.

on a related subject, will b.net 2.0 provide the same flexibilty that i have with starcraft 1?
for instance, I can host a game of my choice, I then enter the pre-game lobby.
In this lobby i can see all people who join, and can invite my friends to come, which they can do so freely.
Now, lets say someone comes in and starts screaming like a bot "GOGOGOGOGGOGOGOGOGO
GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO
GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO
GOGOGOGOGOGOGOOGGOGOOG
OGO
GO
O
GOG
O"
Me:"shut up"
"GGFOFOFGOGOGOGOOGO
OGOOGO"
Me"STFU NOW!"
"GOGOGOGOGO
GOGOGO"

now at this point would ban him, which as the host i can do without discretion, and would stop him returning for that game.
Will SC2 let me, as the host, remove players that are causing detriment to the fun of everyone and let my friends join my game reguardless of skill, or will it shove me in randomly with some jerk i don't know based on skill and not give me a chance to moderate the people i play with?

As for lobby

You can remove players by right clicking on their names and selecting Remove. Don't think you can ban them. You can't name your game either. You can invite friends however.

You can't name your game? Really?
i can't think of any reason blizzard would have for that.

I've been playing the Beta since April. I've yet to meet someone who hasn't spoken English.

I'm pretty certain its like WoW, an Oceania/Australia server, not an asian server, so english speaking players will be in the majority. The poor Fijians and New Caledonians are the ones who should be complaining.

Beta has no region lock, so you mostly run into English speaking community. Australia/NZ for now is together with Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand on servers, unless Blizzard will actually change them to NA, there is/was a thread on official forums where they asked for traceroutes regarding this.

I think they'll have their own place. Besides, Koreans are so pro, they know what you're doing and helps.

Play on the U.S. Servers? Or if you wanna play competitive you can always play on the iCCup server. On SCII the servers are segregated into zones, as far as I know there's the North/South American, European, Asian, and (I think, don't quote me) Australian servers where you only play with others from that region. Everyone on the N.A. Beta server speaks english anyway, with the exception of a few Spanish speakers.
