Hmm, yes, totally, what an informative thread, really.

Also, fuck Nintendo for their decision of screwing over Sony.

"But the deal we agreed to was bad for us so we want backsies" is something that belongs on the playground. Don't like a deal? Either don't agree to it or renegotiate it.

The initial deal was that Sony would manufacture a CD-ROM attachment that would bolt onto the bottom of the SNES system, just like the Sega Mega CD did with the Mega Drive. Sony’s new CD-ROM standard – Super Disc – would be used for the games, and as a result, Sony could claim licensing fees from every publisher that produced software for the system.

Around 1991, Sony was involved in the sound-chip of the console, and the terms of the contract enabled Sony to gain a bigger piece of the financial pie if games were being developed for the ‘SuperDisc’ part of the console. ]

In 1991, the New York Times reported Sony had "retained all licensing rights for any compact disk game developed for the new system," meaning the deal with Sony left Nintendo uncharacteristically holding the short-end of the stick

You should have started with that in the first place with those links. Though like I said before, Nintendo is still the one that's mainly at fault here. Done here.
