Recently, I started playing Transformers: War for Cybertron and altough the PC port was technically lousy, I enjoyed it simply because I am a fan of the anime robots in disguise(the only anime I am a fan of). Brings back some memories...

Anyway that's when I started thinking about the movies. Many people hate them, but I really don't get why. Sure they're not really good story wise, but I loved the animations, the big explosions and all, I really got the feeling that those were some big robots in epic battles (optimus melee's decepticons in the woods for example). Now I know there is a lot of hate here for Michael Bay, but atleast he made them look and feel good. Also the voice acting for me was incredible.

A sidenote: I totally didn't pay attention to that shia dude, the only time I actually noticed humans in the movie was some scenes with Megan Fox showing her cleavage.
Also am I the only one that didn't find that robot chick that hawt?

Transformers movies, did they ruin the franchise, are they atleast somewhat good?

The first one wasn't really that awful.

There is something you should be aware of, Transformers have their own personality and struggles, so why focus mostly on the human characters?

Transformers 2 is especially guilty of this. We saw some interesting stuff that COULD have turned awesome.
For instance, the Fallen, he was great, but it took the focus off him and then focused on SAM's struggle through college and trying to be normal.
This is why I hate Transformers 2.

Imagine taking the Ninja Turtles movie and turning it into a movie about April O'neal finding the turtles and trying to live a normal life and hook up with Kasey Jones but at the same time, being the turtles saving grace. Of course the turtles would pop in and have cardboard personalities and would have no story of their own.

^That's Transformers 2, replace April with Sam, replace Kacey Jones with Megan Fox, replace turtle with Transformers.

Here's the thing about the Transformers movies, they're ONLY good if you can turn off your brain and just enjoy the mindless explosions. If you actually THINK while you're watching, you're going to notice everything that's wrong with them.

One thing I don't understand about your post is that they look good. Those designs are HORRIBLE. Especially Starscream. They're just way over-complicated, they look like a pile of scrap metal more than actual robots. Honestly, Optimus is the only one that looks halfway decent, but that's still not saying much.

I'll say that the voice acting is okay (getting the original voice of Optimus was a nice touch), but it's not really anything to write home about.

Then there's the completely absurd story, the lack of any likable characters (god, Wheelie was so damn annoying), and the terrible action scenes. Seriously, everything is shot WAY too close, and there's so much shaky-cam, I nearly threw up.

The movies as a whole don't RUIN the franchise, but they're a pretty big stain on it.

Sidenote: Concerning your sidenote, no, i didn't really find the robot girl that hot, but that's because it was OBVIOUS she was a robot from her very first scene. Also, when that metal tail came out of her butt, I thought to myself, "geez, Bay needs some SERIOUS mental help".

First was bad, second was abysmal. I could never keep track of all the different metal parts on their bodies; it was too much of a clusterfuck. The acting royally sucked, it had more plot holes than characters, the lapses of logic are ridiculous, and on top of all that, it was racist! I defy the fans of the movie to find one, just ONE objectively good thing about Transformers.

Well, I could imagine being pissed if you actually bought tickets to them, but I've only seen them on bus rides during school field trips, and, well, it's better than the smelly kid I end up getting put next to.

I really enjoyed the first one, but never got around to seeing the second, nor do I want to.

And I haven't forgiven them for cutting Transformers: Animated short just so they could sell the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen toyline. (...What? Don't look at me like that!)

I agree, characters needed more development for sure. I expected that just because the movies were kinda longer than the average flick.

To me the robot designs are good. I don't mind that they have a pantload of parts that don't make sense, it's just a movie. The actions scenes were ok.

I'm writing all of this considering that this IS a Michael Bay movie, thats why I actually DID turn off my brain and actually did not care about the storyline. It isn't canon so why should I even care about it :D
