Hunter or Warlock are great for newbies, but it sucks when all those newbies get to 80 and think they can raid...
read my post on page one, it explains in detail how each class goes, and says exactly which class you should start with (there is no option, just must)

Good thing you only hit me in the foot. Opinons differ from one another and while I have played every class except Shammys and Druids. Glad to see people who have a good summary of every class.
I love your enthusiasm for shamans, but... Sadly, they are not like this. They have been buffed recently, but its still not enough for them to honestly be called a good class (Ok, Elemental I hear is doing alright) but enhancement usually gets stomped.
it wasnt enthusiasm, it was me saying dont touch these guys till later, because they are too complex to start with. i stopped understanding the class at lvl 15 because i had already filled multiple skill bars just organizing the spells. i did say that enhancement was OP

Maddawg, i was aiming at your crotch, and im a great shot. good to hear you have also tried almost all the classes out, i havent gotten to play DK yet though. the reason is picking a simple class hurts because you do not learn how to be flexible, and too complex of a class (shamans, im looking at you) as your starting character will just crush your skull. paladins i like because while they place high on the complexity meter, they are a strait forward and fun class. the are very flexible, and only really have 2 basic skill sets (healing and combat)

Listen to him, he knows things.

I would say It would be best to start off with a hybrid class yoru first tiem around wow. examples being pallies, druid, priest and shamens.

They are more flexible in the begin so they made me feel safer when I played the first time around. After you get a feel for the game through one of these foru then I woudl sujest finding a job the cater to the asppect of the game you like most.

Remeber reading a class descriton or playstyle is one thing. Experincing it is another demon altogether.
really i was saying play paladins or priests first, not druids or shamans, while druids are good, shamans get too hard too quickly

Alot of people here will give you various answers, but take it from someone who knows. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET THE HELL OUT OF MMO'S WHILE YOU STILL CAN!! I used to play World of Warcraft, stopped just recently, in fact. Best thing I ever did! In just 2 weeks I dramatically raised my grades, got into more social clubs and activities, and I'm pretty sure I'm getting some more positive attention from the ladies. I know that Massive Multiplayer Onlines are fun ways to escape reality, that's why I played them. But making reality better is FAR MORE REWARDING in the end. Even if you're not totally addicted, or if you have a less addictive personality, World of Warcraft will suck you into the Twisting Nether and spit you out as a Fat, hairy, 37-year-old with almost no real friends, and almost no cell pigmentation. Please trust me on this, video games are fun, hell, I still play them pretty often, but World of Warcraft, and MMOs in general, are a whole 'nother story. leave while you can.

Personally, played WoW for 3 years until I couldn't stand it anymore. The game got repetitive and gear based, which in my opinion ruined the game. Hunters (when I last played, about a year ago) were very easy to level and funnish to play.

I currently don't play WoW but I am thinking about it. I just want feedback from those who play it what do you think. I would also like suggestions from players on what class to start as.

EDIT: also I should have mentioned I have much experience with MMOs just something to keep in mind

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN''''''''''''''TTTTTTTT

As someone who played 8 hours a day. Seriously, it is like crack. Don't let that stuff touch your veins.

I apologize for my blatant comment: I in no way blame World of Warcraft for my own social shortcommings, and my addictive personality is something I try to deal with in my own time.

World of Warcraft was more of an early wake-up call for me, in that I am glad it taught me about how attatched I became to things before I got into any real trouble with more dangerous hobbies. I'm mearly suggesting that MMO games have a way of ensnaring you into their world, which is a good thing for them in broadening their community, and the other obvious reasons, and it can be a good thing for the consumer as well, if they can be confident in their self-control.

But for a person like myself who was not as in command, hobbies like these can get out of hand, and if you find your hobby interfearing with other important aspects of your life, it has become the literal definition of an addiction, and it's time to stop. I just stress that you should not be as far into it to the point where you are unable to do this if it becomes necessary.

Video-games are fun, damnit, and we can't go around providing more ammunition for Jack's censor-gun.

WoW have many sides and can be played in different ways depending on the nature of the sever and guild you find yourself in. Played on and off since release trying the different classes and toying around with the game, hardcore, softcore, now balancing the fine edge between too much and wasting money :)

For OP:
WoW is a fine MMORPG, the only problem is, that in end game content, you need to put some hours off at a time to get anything done really. 1 hour a day gets nothing done, wheres 7 hours on day a week gets alot of stuff done (yes im exaggerating to get the point thru). I suggest one of the lighter classes that still takes a bit of attention, like a mage or druid. It depends alot on how fast you are at grasping gameplay concepts.

For everyone who sayes "onoez u loose all kind of life playing". You are either easy to get addicted, or just not really good at time management, I raided, having a good relationship going, a decent social life that is not much better than most other peoples, and get top grades, so its basicly a matter of how good you are at managing your time.

Anyway! I dont have experience with other MMORPGs than wow, but I've played a ton of single player RPGs before, so it felt a bit simplified compared to the more complex singleplayer ones. And well, at max level, its not just number crushing as its implied in above posts, its also a matter of how you tweak your charater to fit the way -you- play and a matter of how good a player you are (situational awareness, ability to focus on a task, using visual and sound clues, and pure wits).

Hope I made sense :p
